Guide to Accessibility Features on Nintendo Switch 2
Follow these steps to enable various accessibility options on Nintendo Switch 2, such as button mapping and text-to-speech.
Before you start
Ensure your system has the most recent update installed, as some of these features are added via system updates.

Select the feature you would like to enable and follow the steps.

Text to Speech
This feature reads out on-screen text in the HOME Menu, Album, and system settings. In addition to on-screen text, the feature reads out information that assists with operations, such as the cursor's position. You can also set different voice types, reading speeds, and volume levels.
The following system languages support this feature (some may require an additional system update): US English, Canadian French, Latin American Spanish, UK English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Dutch, Russian.
How to enable during first-time setup
A system update can be applied to enable Text to Speech after setting up an Internet connection, if you select a supported language. Detailed descriptive steps to reach that point are available.
How to adjust Text to Speech settings
- Press the HOME Button, then navigate down one menu option and left two menu options and press the A Button to select System Settings.
- Navigate down five menu options and press the A Button to select Accessibility.
- Navigate down eight menu options and press the A Button to enable or disable Text to Speech. You can adjust the following settings by navigating further down in the menu:
- Voice Type: Pick Type 1 or Type 2.
- Text-to-Speech Speed: Slide left to decrease or right to increase the speed at which text is read.
- Text-to-Speech Volume: Slide left to decrease or right to increase the volume at which text is read.
- Press the HOME Button, then navigate down one menu option and left two menu options and press the A Button to select System Settings.

GameChat Speech ⇔ Text
GameChat includes Speech-to-Text and Text-to-Speech features. With Speech-to-Text, voices of other members in the chat room can be displayed as text. With Text-to-Speech, you can send text entered on a keyboard as audio to other GameChat members.
The following system languages support both Speech-to-Text and Text-to-Speech (some may require a system update): US English, Canadian French, Latin American Spanish, UK English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Dutch, Russian.
The following system languages support Speech-to-Text only (some may require a system update): Brazilian Portuguese, Portuguese.
How to adjust GameChat Speech ⇔ Text settings
- Press the HOME Button, then navigate down one menu option and left two menu options and press the A Button to select System Settings.
- Navigate down five menu options and press the A Button to select Accessibility.
- Navigate to the bottom of this list (down 12 menu options) and press the A Button to select Change Speech ⇔ Text During GameChat.
- Select the user you want to change GameChat settings for.
- The following options can be changed:
- Display Speech as Text: Toggle on to transcribe all users' speech into a chat box at the side of your main screen. Also includes text-to-speech messages.
- Speech to text language: Change the language that speech to text is converting (defaulting to your system language). This feature will only recognize speech in and convert speech to text in the language that is set here.
- Send Text as Speech: Toggle on to convert GameChat text messages into audible speech for all users.
- Voice Type: Pick Type 1 or Type 2.
- Text to speech language: Change the language that text to speech is converting (defaulting to your system language). This language setting also determines which keyboard is used when sending text messages in GameChat.
- Press the HOME Button, then navigate down one menu option and left two menu options and press the A Button to select System Settings.

Text size, bolding, and contrast in HOME Menu and System Settings
Note: These settings are not reflected when playing a game. Please check the game's own settings for related accessibility options.
- Select System Settings
from the HOME Menu.
- Select Accessibility.
- The following options can be changed:
- Text Size: Select standard, large, or maximum text size.
- Bold Text: Toggle on to make text appear thicker.
- High Contrast: Toggle on to adjust the color of various menus to increase contrast with other screen elements, such as making gray colors darker.

Zoom in on the screen
- Select System Settings
from the HOME Menu.
- Select Accessibility.
- Turn on Zoom. You can then press the HOME Button quickly twice to enlarge the screen, or again to stop zooming in.
- While the screen is enlarged, you can move the focused area of the screen with the Left Stick or Right stick, press the HOME Button to lock the screen where it's currently zoomed in, and use the X Button and Y Button to adjust the level of zoom. In handheld or tabletop mode, you can also use two fingers on the touch screen and pinch to adjust the zoom.

Change the screen display colors
- Select System Settings
from the HOME Menu.
- Select Accessibility.
- Select Change Display Colors. The following options can be selected:
- Default: The standard screen colors will be shown.
- Invert Colors: Fully invert the colors displayed on the screen (e.g. white turns to black).
- Grayscale: All colors will be changed to grayscale.
- Default: The standard screen colors will be shown.

Button mapping
Button mapping can be changed for the following controllers:
- Joy-Con 2
- Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller
- Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip
- Nintendo Switch Joy-Con and Pro Controller.
How to enable button mapping
- Select System Settings
from the HOME Menu.
- Select Accessibility, then Button Mapping.
- Pick the controller you want to change, and then select Edit Controller Mapping.
- Only controllers that are currently connected will be displayed.
- The GL and GR buttons on the Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip and Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller can only be mapped from Quick Settings while you are playing a game.
- Select the button you want to change the mapping for and select which button to map to.
You can also change certain control stick settings.

How to change control stick mapping
You can change which side each stick is on. For example, the Right Stick input can be configured on the Left Stick.
- Select Control Stick Settings.
- You can toggle mapping each stick as either the Right Stick or Left Stick. When changing this setting for Joy-Con 2 or Joy-Con, this only works with a dual-controller grip.

How to change Joy-Con 2 or Joy-Con control stick orientation
Note: This setting is intended for when the Joy-Con 2 or Joy-Con controller is used in solo horizontal grip.
- Select Control Stick Settings.
- Toggle on Change Orientation.

How to change control stick mapping
- Once you have finished making any desired changes, select Save.
- If you want to return the button mapping to the defaults, you can select Reset Controller Mapping from the Button Mapping menu later. This will not delete any registered presets.
Note: You can also enable Button Mapping in Quick Settings to add this option to the Quick Settings menu, accessed by pressing and holding the HOME Button. This jumps directly to the menu in System Settings.
How to save or change between preset mappings
You can save up to five button mappings as presets on each controller and swap between them freely.
- Select System Settings
from the HOME Menu.
- Select Accessibility, then Button Mapping.
- Pick the controller you want to save a preset for.
- Select Save as a Preset to register the current button mapping, or select Load a Preset to change to a different preset.

Change audio from stereo to mono
- Select System Settings
from the HOME Menu.
- Select Accessibility.
- You can toggle Mono Audio on or off.
