Nintendo Account Recovery Process

What to do

1. Sign in to your Nintendo Account on the Nintendo Account website and change your password.
   • If you don't remember your Nintendo Account password or login information, see Forgot Nintendo Account Sign-in Info.
2. Sign out of all devices associated to your Nintendo Account.
   • How to sign out of devices
     1. Select Sign-in and security settings in your Nintendo Account profile.
     2. Click View next to "Sign-in history".
     3. Select Sign out from all devices.
        • Your Nintendo Account will be signed out from any devices where it was used. You will need to log back in on each device using the new password to associate your Nintendo Account again.
3. Set up one or more of the following security settings for your Nintendo Account to provide additional layers of security and additional options when you need to verify your identity:
   • Register your phone number to your Nintendo Account.
   • Register a passkey with your Nintendo Account.
   • Set up 2-step verification security for your Nintendo Account.
4. Restrict your Nintendo Account sign-in methods to Sign-in ID only. This will prevent others from using your email address to try to access your account without permission.
   • How to create a Sign-in ID and require it for sign-in
     1. Select Sign-in and security settings, then scroll down to the Sign-in ID section and click Edit.
     2. Enter your desired Sign-in ID, then click Save and OK.
        • Enter an ID that will be both easy to remember and unique enough that others cannot guess it.
        • It must be at least 6 characters long.
        • You can change your Sign-in ID at any time.
        • Sign-in IDs are not displayed publicly, and have no purpose in games.
     3. Scroll down to the Sign-in method section and click Edit.
     4. Select Sign-in ID only (recommended).
     5. Click Submit, then OK to confirm.

5. Remove any stored credit card or PayPal account information from your Nintendo Account.
   • How to remove credit card information
     1. Select Funds and Payment Methods from the Nintendo Account website.
     2. Select Manage payment methods in the "Credit Card" section.
     3. Click Delete next to the name, last four digits, and expiration for the saved credit card that appears.
        • If a credit card has not been stored on your account, the Credit Card area will say “No saved credit card information available.” This means that credit card information is also not saved in the Nintendo Switch eShop.
     4. Click Delete again to confirm.

   • How to remove PayPal information
     1. Select Funds and Payment Methods from the Nintendo Account website.
     2. Select Manage payment methods in the "PayPal" section.
     3. Click Unlink in the "PayPal" section where the beginning of the email address associated to your PayPal account is listed.
        • If a PayPal account has not been linked to the Nintendo Account, the PayPal area will say, "Not linked".
     4. Click Unlink again to confirm.

6. Secure any other accounts that you have linked to your Nintendo Account. It's possible that one of those accounts was compromised, leading to access to your Nintendo Account.
   • How to secure a linked Google account or Apple ID

     If your Nintendo Account is linked to a Google account or an Apple ID, we recommended that you visit Google or Apple support for directions to update the password for those accounts.

     If you suspect that a linked Google or Apple account has been compromised, unlink it from your Nintendo Account.

   • How to secure a linked Nintendo Network ID

     If your Nintendo Account is linked to a Nintendo Network ID, we recommend you change its password using a Wii U or Nintendo 3DS family system.

     • If you are unable to change the Nintendo Network ID password, unlink it from your Nintendo Account.
   • How to secure an associated email address

     If you suspect that your email address inbox has been accessed by an unauthorized user, contact your email provider for assistance with recovering your email account.
