How to Download or Redownload Content in Nintendo 3DS eShop
Nintendo 3DS
In this article, you'll learn how to use the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo 3DS.
Important
- As of 5:00 PM Pacific Time on Monday, March 27, 2023, it is no longer possible to purchase software or DLC in the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo 3DS. However, for the foreseeable future, it is still possible to redownload games and DLC that were purchased previously. For more information, read the Wii U & Nintendo 3DS Nintendo eShop Discontinuation Q&A.
- If you previously had digital content (games) on your Nintendo 3DS system that you are now unable to download due to the closure of the Limited Nintendo eShop in Latin America and the Caribbean in 2020, this information may be helpful.
Note
- If update data is available, it will automatically download along with your software.
- Themes for your Nintendo 3DS family system are not downloaded from the Nintendo eShop, but are instead downloaded through the Theme Shop.
- Once deleted, Nintendo eShop purchases can be redownloaded at no cost.
- Downloaded items appear as a gift on the HOME Menu. Once they have fully downloaded, you can tap them to access the software.
Complete these steps
Important: If you previously formatted your Nintendo 3DS family system and are redownloading content that was purchased while you had a Nintendo Network ID associated with your system, that ID must be relinked to your Nintendo 3DS family system.
- From the HOME Menu, select the Nintendo eShop icon and tap Open.
- Scroll left and select Settings / Other.

- Scroll down and select Redownloadable Software.
- Select Redownload next to the software you wish to redownload.
- Select Download.
- Select Download Later or Download Now.
- Items downloaded now will begin immediately.
- Items downloaded later will begin when the system enters sleep mode. You can prepare multiple downloads when selecting Download Later.
