System Settings Overview for Nintendo Switch

Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, Nintendo Switch - OLED Model

Note: Make sure your system is updated to the latest system version in order to access all available system settings.

Within System Settings, you can configure important features on the system, adjust user settings, or set up an Internet connection.

  1. Which system are you using?
  2. The following settings are available on Nintendo Switch – OLED Model:
    • Support/Health & Safety
    • Airplane Mode

      Turn on Airplane Mode to disable all wireless communications, including Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. With Airplane Mode enabled, you can then individually turn on the following types of wireless communication:

      • Bluetooth (enables the use of wireless controllers and Bluetooth audio)
      • Wi-Fi (enables internet connection and local wireless play)
      • NFC (enables the use of amiibo)

      Important: Airplane mode cannot be activated while the console is in TV mode.

    • Screen Brightness

      These options cannot be configured while the console is in TV mode.

    • Bluetooth Audio

      Pair, connect, or manage Bluetooth audio devices.

    • Screen Lock

      Enable or disable a screen lock when the console goes into sleep mode.

    • Parental Controls

      Watch a video about Parental Controls or adjust Parental Control settings. Parental Controls can be used to restrict features of the system and can be configured from the system or from your smart device.

    • Internet

      • Access individual user settings.
      • Change the order users are displayed.
      • Add or delete a user.
      • Transfer your user data to another Nintendo Switch system.
    • Mii

      Create or edit a Mii character that can be used in compatible software.

    • amiibo
      • Register amiibo to use with compatible software.
      • Delete Game Data tied to an amiibo.
      • Reset an amiibo to remove all data associated with it.
    • Themes

      Change the current Theme, which affects the appearance of the system's menus.

    • Notifications

      Change various notification settings, including "Download Complete" Notifications, Friend Notifications, Nintendo Switch Online Notification Settings, and Alarm Notifications.

    • Sleep Mode
      • Configure Auto-Sleep timing when playing on the console screen and when connected to a TV.
      • Adjust Auto-Sleep behavior when playing media content.
      • Manage whether a wired Internet connection is maintained while the system is in sleep mode.
      • Manage whether the system automatically wakes from sleep mode when removed from the dock or AC Adapter.
    • Controllers and Sensors
      • Configure various controller settings, including the following:
        • Change the grip/order of controllers.
        • Set customized button mapping for individual controllers.
        • Enable or disable controller vibration.
        • Enable wired communication for a Nintendo Switch Pro Controller.
        • Update controllers.
        • Calibrate control sticks.
        • Calibrate motion controls.
      • Set the touch-screen sensitivity.
      • Test input devices to check for problems with controllers or the touch screen.
      • Disconnect controllers to remove all saved controller pairings.
    • TV Settings

      Configure TV settings such as TV resolution, RGB range, screen size, screen burn-in reduction, and TV sound.

    • System
      • Perform a System Update.
      • Update the Nintendo Switch dock with LAN port.
      • Change the console nickname.
      • Change the system language.
      • Change the system region.
      • Set the current date and time.
      • Manage whether to display the current battery percentage on the HOME Menu.
      • Change the Console Sound between Stereo and Mono.
      • Manage whether to mute the system audio when headphones are disconnected.
      • Lower the maximum headphone volume.
      • Set the language for a USB keyboard.
      • Toggle console-screen colors between Vivid and Standard.
      • Change display colors.
      • Manage whether to enable Zoom by pressing the HOME Button twice quickly.
      • Review various information about the system.
      • Enable software to automatically update when available.
      • Adjust News Channel settings.
      • Choose whether to share error information with third-parties.
      • Select various formatting options, including Reset Cache, Reset Keyboard, Format microSD Card, and Initialize Console.
    The following settings are available on Nintendo Switch:
