How to Add Funds to the Nintendo eShop in the U.S., Canada, or Mexico

What to do

• Add funds with a Credit Card

  Note: The credit card you use must have been issued in the same country as the Nintendo eShop you want to use. (For example, credit cards issued for the U.S. will only work in the Nintendo eShop for the U.S.)

  1. Launch Nintendo eShop from the HOME Menu.
  2. Select the account you want to use.
  3. Select the picture of your icon in the upper-right corner to access your Account Information.
  4. Select Add Funds.
  5. Select Credit Card.
     • Using a previously stored credit card

       If you have a credit card stored on your Nintendo Account, you will be prompted to select either Use this credit card or Use another credit card. If you use the stored credit card, you will not need to re-enter the credit card information to complete the purchase.

  6. Select the amount of funds you want to add from the available options. Note that your total balance cannot exceed $800 USD, $1100 CAD, or $5000 MXN.
  7. Enter the credit card number, expiration date, security code, and billing zip/postal code, and select NextContinuarSuitePróximo.
     • Nintendo Account owners aged 18+ can click the Save box on the credit card entry screen to store the credit card information so you don't have to enter it again for future purchases.
  8. Select Confirm, then Add. The funds will be applied to your balance.
• Add funds using a Nintendo eShop Card
  1. Launch Nintendo eShop from the HOME Menu.
  2. Select the account you want to use.
  3. Select Enter Code on the left side of the screen.
  4. Enter the 16-character code from the Nintendo eShop card, then select OK. Note that any letters and symbols not used in these codes will be disabled from the on-screen keyboard.
  5. Select Confirm, then Add. The funds will be applied to your balance.
     • Unable to add the funds due to balance limits

       Your total balance cannot exceed $800 USD, $1100 CAD, or $5000 MXN.

       You can spend some of the funds before adding more.

• Add funds using a PayPal Account

  Note: This option is only available to Nintendo Account owners in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, aged 18 years and older.

  1. Launch Nintendo eShop from the HOME Menu.
  2. Select the account you want to use.
  3. Select the picture of your icon in the upper-right corner to access your Account Information.
  4. Select Add Funds.
  5. Select PayPal.
  6. Link your PayPal account to your Nintendo Account, if you have not already done so.
  7. Select the amount of funds you want to add from the available options. Note that your total balance cannot exceed $800 USD, $1100 CAD, or $5000 MXN.
  8. Select Add. The funds will be applied to your balance.
