How to Update Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment

Follow these steps to update Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, or review the software's update history.

Note

On December 17, 2025, a new software update for Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment became available for download. Please take a moment to download and install this update while your Nintendo Switch 2 console is connected to the Internet.

Complete these steps

  1. Connect your Nintendo Switch 2 console to the internet.

      1. Place the Nintendo Switch 2 console within 10 feet of the wireless router so there will be a strong wireless signal.

      4. Select the appropriate network name (SSID) from the list.
      5. Use the onscreen keyboard to enter the network's wireless password, if one is required. Entering wireless network password using on-screen keyboard in the System Settings on Nintendo Switch 2
      6. The connection will be tested. Once the test is complete, select OK.
        • If the connection test fails, an error code and message will appear. Search for our support article on the error code for steps to troubleshoot the connection.

  2. From the HOME Menu, select the icon for the software you wish to update without starting the game or application.
  3. Press the + Button or – Button on your controller. The current version number will display under the software title.
  4. Select Software Update followed by Over the Internet.

Latest update: Ver. 1.0.3 (Released December 17, 2025)

Features added

Phantom Ganon:

  • Phantom Ganon is a new feature that randomly triggers in battles that you have completed. In battles where Phantom Ganon has triggered, a portion of the enemies that appear will have transformed into Vicious Enemies or Gloom Spawn.
  • In addition, when you defeat powerful enemies, there is a possibility that Phantom Ganon may appear. You will be able to acquire more Pure Zonaite Steel than in normal battles.

Forbidden Difficulty:

  • In the new Forbidden difficulty level, you can experience high-difficulty battles that are more challenging than the battles in Very Hard difficulty.
  • If you complete a certain number of battles on Forbidden difficulty, you will receive special rewards such as Pure Zonaite Steel or an increase in the number of Special Rations that can be held.

New challenges and quests added:

  • Similar to the first free update, this second update also adds multiple new challenges and quests to the Hyrule Map after the main game has been beaten.
  • Lizalfos and Chuchus appear as new Vicious Enemies.
  • The Tanagar Meditation Hall on the sky island is unlocked, and you will be able to perform a sync strike if you enter with two characters.

New Unique Skills added:

  • New unique skills have been added to the Mysterious Construct for its one-handed weapons, two-handed weapons, and spears.
  • With the one-handed weapon unique skill Shield Charge, you can break through dangerous attacks from charging enemies by raising your shield and stepping into them. Also, with correct timing against an enemy attack, you can deal a powerful spinning slash.
  • You can learn these skills by completing the challenges and quests that are added in this update.

New weapons added:

  • The Forbidden Blade, a one-handed weapon that was touched by Gloom and ominously transformed, was added. The Mysterious Construct and warriors of various peoples are able to equip it.
  • You can acquire this weapon by completing battles that are added in this update.
  • The battles below will be added as well:
    • Battles focused on the warriors.
    • A life-or-death struggle with a certain powerful enemy.

Improved Features

  • Aside Quests that involve sync strikes as a condition have been changed so that they can also be achieved by characters you are not controlling while performing sync strikes.
  • You can back out of bonus conversations in the Gallery with B Button.
  • Adjusted display conditions and frequency in Tutorials for Dodge and Guard.
  • When you have hit the upper limit of Zonaite Steel you can possess, you will be able to use the weapon enhancements below at the end of combat:
    • Raise Weapon-Level Limit
    • Remove Seals

Fixed Issues

  • Fixed an issue where, when assigning Electric Lizalfos parts to the Material Sensor, a battle in which Electric Lizalfos don’t appear (“Terror of the Sands”) could be tracked.
  • Fixed an issue where the Challenge “A Flash of Steel in the Desert“ would not appear until a number of other battles had been completed, even after all displayed requisite battles had been completed.
  • Fixed an issue where, during two-player split-screen play, the second player’s attack sounds and other sounds could not be heard.
  • Fixed an issue where, when assigning necessary materials to the Material Sensor (Assign to Sensor in Unlock Weapon Arts) a player would only be able to remove them from the sensor via the Materials screen.

    Features Added

    New challenges and quests added:

    • Multiple challenges and quests have been added, accessible upon completing the main story.
    • New Vicious enemy variants such as Bokoblin and Sludge Like will now appear. Fuse Attacks like Boko Rapid Spin that are performed using materials from Vicious Bokoblins will be significantly powered up compared to those performed with standard materials.

    New weapons added:

    • Added the Longsword of Light, a special longsword that Rauru imbued with a protective ward, and the High Guard's Spear, a spear issued to the bravest warriors serving the king of Hyrule.
    • You can acquire these weapons by completing certain battles that have been added in this update.

    New unique sync strike:

    • A new unique sync strike between Zelda and Calamo has been added.
    • Calamo throws a boomerang, which Zelda rewinds with the power of time. If the player can press the X Button with good timing, Calamo will catch the returning boomerang and the attack will become more powerful.
    • You can acquire this sync strike by completing a certain quest that has been added in this update.

    Fighting alongside Flux Constructs:

    • You can now perform a sync strike with a Flux Construct. Their powerful spin attacks can scatter minor foes, and chip away at the weak point gauges of powerful enemies.
    • You will be able to perform this in existing battles where Flux Constructs appear in addition to one of the new battles added in this update.

    Additional battles added:

    • "Eve of the Final Confrontation"
    • "In Search of Poes"
    • "The Struggle for Ash Swamp"

    Improved Features

    Actions:

    • Special actions for the Mysterious Construct can now be saved for each weapon type.
    • Added a warning sound before the effects of the Power Surge and Boundless Energy unique skills end.

    Battles:

    • You can now change your selected character and weapon when training in the Hyrulean Training Plaza or Tanagar Meditation Hall.
    • A preview of the recovery amount is now displayed when selecting special rations or batteries.

    Deployment Preparations Screen:

    • From the Allies screen during deployment preparation, you can now press the Y Button to jump to your Aside Quests.

    The Hyrule Map:

    • Added a Hyrule Map Tutorials section to the Tutorials menu.
    • Made it easier to see how regions are divided on the Surface map.
    • When hovering over a battle, a preview of the territory you can liberate is now displayed.

    Quests:

    • Changed the color of the text on the Quests list to yellow for quests that are ready to be completed.
    • Adjusted the display text for quests with percentage-based completion conditions.

    Fixed Issues

    • Fixed an issue where the Construct Launch unique skill was not receiving the intended attributes of some special effects or enhancements.
    • Fixed an issue where the Aside Quest task "Defeat -- enemies using Zonai devices" was not counting Zonai-device-enhanced strong attacks and aerial attacks toward completion.
    • Fixed an issue where during certain Frox attacks, the weapon art "May Guard Automatically, Shocking/Freezing/Burning Enemies" would trigger but not send the enemy into the expected elemental state.
    • Fixed an issue where changing characters from the pause menu during battle would sometimes remove certain temporary character enhancements.
    • Fixed an issue where the background music would sometimes stop playing when selecting "Retry" after performing certain actions.
    • Fixed an issue where it would become impossible to progress when using GameShare.
    • Fixed an issue where attacks would not land on particular enemies after a disconnect occurred when using GameShare.
    • Fixed an issue where the player would sometimes return to the Hyrule Map screen when selecting "Retry" after performing certain actions during two-player split screen play.
    • Fixed an issue where the camera controls would become reversed when performing a sync strike with Pinnec during two-player split screen play.
    • Fixed some issues with certain screen displays.
  • Ver. 1.0.1 (Released November 5, 2025)

    Fixed Issues

    • Fixed an issue where progress would stop when player discovered a Korok under specific conditions when playing two-player Split Screen.
    • Fixed an issue where the screen would go dark and it would be impossible to progress when quitting a battle during the animation for "Temporal Counter."
    • Fixed an issue where progress stopped sometimes when trying to start a battle, when quitting the communication for GameShare.
    • Several other issues have been fixed.

    Feature Added

    • Added shortcut feature (Y Button) to the Aside Quests on the map screen.
