Unable to Hear Other Players During GameChat
Follow these steps if you can't hear what friends in your GameChat room are saying.
Note: When capturing a video using the Capture Button during GameChat, only your own gameplay screen is recorded. It will not capture any sounds or video footage from other users in the group or your own camera/microphone.
Before you start
- You will need the following to complete this troubleshooting:
- Your Nintendo Switch 2 console
- An Internet connection
- Access to your router and/or modem
- Visit Nintendo's Network Status page and check for any posted service maintenance or outages.

Please wait until the outage or maintenance has ended and check whether the issue is resolved before following this troubleshooting.

Possible solutions
- Confirm whether you can hear other sounds from the system besides other users in the GameChat room. For example, start a game that has sounds you recognize, or open a video from the Album.

No sound at all
You will need to troubleshoot your audio output first. Follow the article for whichever method you are using to output audio from the system:
- No Sound From One Or Both System Speakers on Nintendo Switch 2
- No Sound From Headphones Connected to Nintendo Switch 2
- No Sound While the Nintendo Switch 2 Console is Docked
- No Sound From USB Speakers Connected to the Nintendo Switch 2 Dock
If you are able to hear other sounds after following those steps but still cannot hear other players in the room, continue with the steps below.

No sound at all
- Try outputting the audio through the system speakers:
- If you are playing in TV mode, remove the system from the dock and use it in Handheld mode or Tabletop mode.
- If you are using headphones or speakers, unplug or disconnect them.
- Check whether you have lowered the voice volume for any users you are unable to hear in the GameChat room.

- Select one of the users in the room.
- Select Options.
- You can adjust a volume slider for that user's voice volume.

- Have the other users check whether they have muted themselves, or have audio input issues on their end that are preventing you from hearing them.
- Everyone in the room can also enable text to speech and type messages to each other while troubleshooting.
- Have everyone leave the GameChat room (including yourself), restart your Nintendo Switch 2 consoles, and then create a new GameChat room with the same members.

- You can invite up to 11 friends for a total of 12 users participating in the room.
- Once you’ve chosen friends to invite, select Next, then Start Chat.

Using a wireless connection
Test your connection after any changes are made to the console or network environment to determine if the change resolves your issue.
- Move the Nintendo Switch 2 console within 10 to 15 feet of the wireless router to improve the signal strength during troubleshooting.
- It may be helpful to remove the Nintendo Switch 2 console from the dock while troubleshooting, and then return the console when troubleshooting is complete.
- If you have any filing cabinets, speakers, power strips, glass, or cordless phones, next to your system or wireless router, move them away.
- Restart the console.

- If the modem's lights remain on, this may indicate you have a back-up battery installed. You will need to remove this battery to power cycle the modem.
- After 30 seconds, plug the power cable back into your modem and wait for the lights to remain steady.
- Plug the power cable back into the router and wait for the router lights to remain steady.

- Place the Nintendo Switch 2 console within 10 feet of the wireless router so there will be a strong wireless signal.
- Select System Settings from the HOME Menu.
- Select Internet, and then Internet SettingsConfiguración de internetParamètres InternetConfigurações de internet. Your console will automatically search for nearby wireless network signals.
- Select the appropriate network name (SSID) from the list.
- Use the onscreen keyboard to enter the network's wireless password, if one is required.
- The connection will be tested. Once the test is complete, select OK.

- Use a different Ethernet cable to determine if the original cable you were using is damaged or no longer working.
- Connect your Ethernet cable to a different port on the router, if you are connecting to a device with multiple LAN ports. Most routers will have at least 4 ports available for network devices.
- Check that both ends of the Ethernet cable are securely attached to the networking device (e.g., router or modem) and the LAN port on the dock.

To continue troubleshooting potential issues related to the router, contact the router's manufacturer for help with the following:
- Updating the router's firmware.
- Resetting the router back to its factory default settings.
