Forgot Parental Controls PIN on Nintendo Switch 2

Follow these steps to locate or reset the parental controls PIN for Nintendo Switch 2.

Note
  • If you enter the wrong PIN number 6 times in a 30-minute period, you will be blocked from trying again for 30 minutes. A count-down timer will appear on the screen.
  • This guidance is specifically for the parental controls PIN. Separate troubleshooting is also available for the user-verification PIN and console lock PIN.

Before you start

Confirm whether your Nintendo Switch 2 console is linked to the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls application on a smart device.

  • Not sure if linked

    You can confirm whether the system is linked to the smart device application with the following steps:

    1. Select System Settings from the HOME Menu on the Nintendo Switch 2 console.
    2. Highlight Parental Controls and check which options are displayed:
      • "Set Up Parental Controls"The Parental Controls section of the System Settings menu, with 'Set Up Parental Controls' highlighted. or "Change Settings"The Parental Controls section of the System Settings menu, with 'Change Settings' highlighted.: Nintendo Switch 2 is not currently linked.
      • "Sync with Nintendo Switch Parental Controls App" and "Unlink App": Nintendo Switch 2 is linked.

Complete these steps

  • Linked to Smart Device Application
    1. Open the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls application on your smart device.
      • Don’t have access to linked smart device
        1. On your Nintendo Switch 2 console, select the red Parental Controls icon at the top of the HOME Menu.
        2. When prompted to enter your Parental Controls PIN, enter an (incorrect) 4-digit number six times. The message "Entered incorrect PIN too many times" will appear on the screen.
        3. Press the + Button or - Button (Help).
        4. Scroll down to "Forgot PIN" section and make note of the Inquiry Number on the screen. You will need it to reset your PIN.
          • Do not back out of the screen where you see the Inquiry Number. If you exit and return, the Inquiry Number will change and the previous Inquiry Number can no longer be used.
        5. Reset your Parental Controls PIN using our online tool.
          • An e-mail address is required to use this service. If you are not able to provide an e-mail address, please contact us for additional assistance.
    2. Select Parental Controls.
    3. Select Parental-Controls PIN.
    4. The Parental Controls PIN for your system will be displayed. If you'd like to choose a different PIN, you can select Change.
  • Not Linked to Smart Device Application
    1. On your Nintendo Switch console, select the red Parental Controls icon at the top of the HOME Menu.
    2. Press the + Button or - Button (Help).
    3. Scroll down to "Forgot PIN" section and make note of the Inquiry Number on the screen. You will need it to reset your PIN.
      • Do not back out of the screen where you see the Inquiry Number. If you exit and return, the Inquiry Number will change and the previous Inquiry Number can no longer be used.
    4. Reset your Parental Controls PIN using our online tool.
