Error Message: "Could Not Connect to the TV, Please Use the AC Adapter Supplied With the Console." on Nintendo Switch 2

Steps for when you are trying to use Nintendo Switch 2 in TV mode and a message is displayed about needing to use the AC adapter that was supplied with the console.

Note: This message may be displayed if you're not using the official Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter (model no. NGN-01).

What to do

  1. Power off the TV and disconnect all cables from the dock.
  2. Unplug the AC adapter from the wall outlet and unplug the USB-C charging cable from the dock and the AC plug. Leave them unplugged for at least thirty seconds.
    • While performing this step, verify you are using the Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter (model No. NGN-01) and check for any damage to the cable (frayed cables, kinks, knots, etc.) or the AC plug.

    • If any damage is found, or if a different charger is being used, replacing it with the correct accessory may resolve the problem.

  3. Undock the Nintendo Switch 2 console and ensure it has the latest system update. If the console is already up to date, restart it.

      1. Select the System Settings on the HOME Menu.

      2. Scroll down through the System Settings menu and select System.
      3. Select System Update, to start the system update process.

  4. Verify you are using the Nintendo Switch 2 dock (model No. BEE-005).

    • If a different accessory is being used, replacing it with the Nintendo Switch 2 dock may resolve the problem.
  5. Update the firmware for the dock.
  6. Connect the AC adapter to the dock and directly to a wall outlet, then connect the HDMI cable to the dock and directly to an HDMI port on the TV set.
    • If a different device is being used with the AC adapter such as a multi-outlet power strip or a power converter, remove them temporarily.
  7. Power on the TV and dock the console with the console screen facing in the same direction as the front panel on the dock.

  8. If the error message is still displayed, try a different Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter.
    • If the issue is resolved using a different Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter, the original one will need to be replaced.

Situation not resolved

If the issue persists using a different AC adapter, or if another one is unavailable for testing, the Nintendo Switch 2 console, the dock, and the AC adapter will need to come in for service.
