How to Update Mario Strikers: Battle League

In this article, you'll learn how to update Mario Strikers: Battle League.

Note
  • This update must be applied in order to use the game’s Internet features.
  • A Nintendo Switch Online membership is required to use the game's online features.
  • Save data will still be available for use after downloading the update.
  • The update will download and install automatically if the system is connected to the internet and the Auto-Update Software setting is enabled. If there is not enough system memory or microSD card storage to download the update, you will first need to expand or free up memory space and then follow the steps below.
  • All players must be using the same version of the software to play together. Please make sure you have the same update version as the person you are playing with.

On March 8, 2023, a new software update for Mario Strikers: Battle League became available for download. Please take a moment to download and install this update while your Nintendo Switch console is connected to the internet.

Complete these steps

  1. Connect your Nintendo Switch 2 or Nintendo Switch console to the internet.
    • How to connect Nintendo Switch 2 to a wireless home network
      1. Place the Nintendo Switch 2 console within 10 feet of the wireless router so there will be a strong wireless signal.

      4. Select the appropriate network name (SSID) from the list.
      5. Use the onscreen keyboard to enter the network's wireless password, if one is required. Entering wireless network password using on-screen keyboard in the System Settings on Nintendo Switch 2
      6. The connection will be tested. Once the test is complete, select OK.
        • If the connection test fails, an error code and message will appear. Search for our support article on the error code for steps to troubleshoot the connection.

    • How to connect Nintendo Switch to a wireless home network
      1. Place the Nintendo Switch console within 10 feet of the wireless router to ensure a strong wireless signal.
      2. Select Settings from the HOME Menu System Settings icon highlighted on the HOME Menu Screen on the Nintendo Switch console.
      3. Select Internet, and then Internet Settings Internet is selected on the System Settings menu on the Nintendo Switch. The Nintendo Switch will automatically search for near-by Wi-Fi signals.
      4. Select the appropriate network name (SSID) from the list.
      5. If prompted, use the onscreen keyboard to enter the network's wireless password Onscreen keyboard displayed when a network's wireless password is required.
      6. The Nintendo Switch will test the Internet connection. Once the test is complete, select OK to complete the process.

  2. From the HOME Menu, select the icon for the software you wish to update without starting the game or application.
  3. Press the + Button or – Button on your controller. The current version number will display under the software title.
  4. Select Software Update followed by Via the Internet.

  • Fixed an issue in which certain combinations of Stadium Themes and characters could cause the game to crash.
  • Fixed several other issues to improve the gameplay experience.

Added Features

  • Added “Striker Rankings” to the Main Menu. Compete by comparing your individual ability over a fixed period of time with “Skill Score”, which varies with your performance in online matches (excluding Battle Friends).
  • Added the following content to “Strikers Club”.
    • You can now customize supporters in the stadium. Access this by going to “Club Management” → “Stadium” → “Supporters”.
    • You can now use Coins to view fireworks and confetti when you score a goal or when you win a match. Access this by going to “Club Management” → “Match Celebration”.

General

  • Adjusted the behavior so that CPU teammates mark opponents more quickly.
  • Adjusted the order of characters when you switch characters.
  • Adjusted the charge time of Perfect Free Passes and Perfect Free Lob Passes.
  • Increased the amount of Coins and tokens you earn depending on the results of a match.
  • Changed the period of time for a rule in Strikers Club, which states that a Club will not be allowed to join a season if no member of a Club has been online within a certain amount of time, from 90 days to 30 days.
  • Changed the number of ? Blocks that are thrown to the losing team at kickoff from 2 to 1 when the difference in score is 2 points.
  • Adjusted the match-making system in online matches.
  • Made several other adjustments to game balance and fixed several other issues to improve the gameplay experience.

  • Fixed an issue where the goal keeper would sometimes fail to react to a free lob pass from certain positions, which would result in a goal being scored.

Added Features

  • Reduced the probability of scoring on a weak shot from far away.
  • Reduced the probability of Stars appearing when you are losing by a 1 or 2 point difference.
  • Revised the CPU behavior and opposing team composition in Cup Battles.
  • Added visible trail to the ball when it’s not in active possession, making it easier to see.
  • Made player numbers easier to see when playing online.
  • Fixed an issue when playing as Waluigi and using a hyper strike in which the ball could hit a goal post and not go in.
  • Made several other adjustments to game balance and fixed several other issues to improve the gameplay experience.
