Error Code: 2160-8006, 2160-8007

Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, Nintendo Switch - OLED Model

Steps for when you cannot complete a connection test to connect to our services on your Nintendo Switch 2 console or Nintendo Switch console, and you receive the error code 2160-8006 or 2160-8007.

Note: This error may be the result of the DNS used, a slow Internet connection, wireless interference, or a weak wireless signal from the router.

Before you start

Remove your console from the dock and bring it within 10 to 15 feet of the wireless router to improve signal strength during troubleshooting.

Possible solutions

What kind of connection are you using?

  • Wireless Internet connection
    • Restart the console.
    • Create a new Internet connection.
      • How to connect Nintendo Switch 2 to a wireless home network
        1. Place the Nintendo Switch 2 console within 10 feet of the wireless router so there will be a strong wireless signal.

        4. Select the appropriate network name (SSID) from the list.

        6. The connection will be tested. Once the test is complete, select OK.
          • If the connection test fails, an error code and message will appear. Search for our support article on the error code for steps to troubleshoot the connection.

      • How to connect Nintendo Switch to a wireless home network
        1. Place the Nintendo Switch console within 10 feet of the wireless router to ensure a strong wireless signal.
        2. Select Settings from the HOME Menu System Settings icon highlighted on the HOME Menu Screen on the Nintendo Switch console.
        3. Select Internet, and then Internet Settings Internet is selected on the System Settings menu on the Nintendo Switch. The Nintendo Switch will automatically search for near-by Wi-Fi signals.
        4. Select the appropriate network name (SSID) from the list.
        5. If prompted, use the onscreen keyboard to enter the network's wireless password Onscreen keyboard displayed when a network's wireless password is required.
        6. The Nintendo Switch will test the Internet connection. Once the test is complete, select OK to complete the process.

    • Manually enter an alternate DNS to determine if the DNS you are currently using is not working.
      • How to manually enter DNS settings on Nintendo Switch 2 or Nintendo Switch
        1. Select Settings from the HOME Menu.
        2. Select Internet.
        3. Select Internet Settings. Your console will automatically search for nearby Wi-Fi signals.
        4. Select your network from the list of networks located under Saved Networks on Nintendo Switch 2 or Registered Networks on Nintendo Switch.
        5. Select Change Settings.
        6. Select DNS Settings.
        7. Select Manual.
        8. Select Primary DNS.
        9. Hold down the B Button to delete the existing DNS (it defaults to zeros).
        10. Enter 8.8.8.8 as the primary DNS, and then select OK.

          Important: The suggested DNS are public DNS provided by Google and are subject to Google's Terms of Service. If you prefer to not use this service, doing an Internet search for public DNS will provide you with several other options you can use.

        11. Select Secondary DNS.
        12. Hold down the B Button to delete the existing DNS.
        13. Enter 8.8.4.4 as the secondary DNS, and then select OK.

    • Power cycle your home network.
      • How to power cycle your home network
        1. Unplug the power cable from both the modem and wireless router (if separate from the modem).
        2. If the modem's lights remain on, this may indicate you have a back-up battery installed. You will need to remove this battery to power cycle the modem.
        3. After 30 seconds, plug the power cable back into your modem and wait for the lights to remain steady.
        4. Plug the power cable back into the router and wait for the router lights to remain steady.

    • Move any metal objects or electronic devices away from your Nintendo Switch 2 or Nintendo Switch console and wireless router. This includes filing cabinets, speakers, power strips, glass, or cordless phones that may interfere with wireless signals.
    • Connect to a different wireless band if your router supports both the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz frequency bands.
  • Wired Internet connection

    Note: A USB LAN Adapter is required to set up a wired Internet connection when using a Nintendo Switch dock without a LAN port. You can connect a USB LAN Adapter to Nintendo Switch Lite using a licensed accessory, such as the Dual USB PlayStand for Nintendo Switch Lite from HORI.

    • Restart the console.
    • Power cycle your home network.

        1. Unplug the power cable from both the modem and wireless router (if separate from the modem).
        2. If the modem's lights remain on, this may indicate you have a back-up battery installed. You will need to remove this battery to power cycle the modem.

    • Connect other devices with an Internet browser to the network and check that you can browse online.

Situation not resolved

If you would like to continue troubleshooting potential issues related to the wireless router, contact the router's manufacturer for help with the following steps:

  • Updating the wireless router's firmware.
  • Resetting the router back to its factory default settings.
