How to Connect the Wii to the Internet with a Wired Connection
Wii & Wii mini
In this article, you'll learn how to connect the Wii to the Internet using a wired connection.
Note
- Connecting the Wii console to the Internet using a wired connection requires the use of the Wii LAN Adapter (sold separately). Many non-Nintendo manufactured USB LAN adapters will not work with the Wii console system.
- The Wii LAN adapter plugs into the Wii console's USB port, and allows the connection of a wired router directly to the Wii Console with an Ethernet cable.
- The Wii mini does not support online functionality. The Wii LAN adapter will not function even if it is connected to the Wii mini's USB port.
Complete these steps
- Install the Wii LAN adapter.
- From the Wii Main Menu, select the Wii icon from the bottom-left.

- Select Wii Settings to access the Wii System Settings menu.

- Using the arrow on the right side of the screen, scroll to page two and select Internet.

- Next, select Connection Settings.

- Select a connection file.
- If you do not have an empty connection slot, you will need to clear a slot.

- Select Wired Connection.

- Then select OK on the next screen. At this point your Wii console will attempt to make a connection with your wired router.
