Unable to Link a Nintendo Network ID to a Nintendo Account

Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, Nintendo Switch - OLED Model, Nintendo 3DS, Wii U

Use this article when you are unable to link a Nintendo Network ID to your Nintendo Account.

What to do

  1. Make sure you're following the correct steps to link your Nintendo Network ID.
  2. Use the "Forgot your NNID?" or "Forgot your password?" links on the screen if you do not remember your NNID sign-in information.
  3. Check if one of the following issues applies:
    • You cannot link accounts if the date of birth listed for the NNID does not match the date of birth for the Nintendo Account you're trying to link to.
    • You cannot link accounts if the country of residence setting for the NNID does not match the country setting of the Nintendo Account you're trying to link to.
    • You cannot link a Nintendo Network ID if it is set to restrict off-device usage. Access your NNID settings on a Wii U or Nintendo 3DS family system and verify that the NNID is set to allow Usage from PCs and Other Devices (Wii U) or Non-Nintendo Device Setting (Nintendo 3DS).

Additional information

As of March 11, 2024, it is no longer possible to combine the Nintendo eShop fund balance between a Nintendo Network ID and a Nintendo Account.
