How to Remove an SD Card or microSD Card

In this article, you'll learn how to remove the SD Card from the system.

Note
  • Make sure the system is powered off.
  • Never remove a miniSD or microSD Card while the adapter is still in the system.

Complete These Steps

  1. Which system are you using?
    1. Open the SD Card slot cover.
      • On the original Nintendo 3DS the SD card slot is located on the left side of the system.
      • On the Nintendo 2DS and Nintendo 3DS XL the SD card slot is located on the right side of the system.
      • On the New Nintendo 2DS XL the microSD card and game card slots are located on the front side of the system.
    2. Gently push on the SD Card until it clicks.
    3. Release the card and it will partially eject.
    4. Slide the SD Card out of the system.
    5. Close the SD Card slot cover.
    1. Use a size #0 cross-head (+) screwdriver to loosen the screws from the cover. The screws are attached to the cover, so they will not come out completely.

    2. Use the stylus to gently pry the cover off the system. The pry locations are on top right and top left sides of the system.
      • Do not use your finger nails to pry the cover off the system, and do not use excessive force.

    3. Gently push down on the top of the microSD Card until you hear a click, and then release the pressure. The microSD Card should pop out of the system.

    4. Remove the microSD Card, being careful to not touch the connectors.
    5. When you are finished, replace the cover.
      The Nintendo 3DS XL's back cover is screwed back into place, making sure the cover is aligned with the Power button and stylus holder
