How to Adjust the Screen Brightness on Nintendo DS Lite

Step by step instructions on how to change the brightness settings and to turn the backlight setting on or off.

Complete these steps

  1. Remove all games from the Nintendo DS.
  2. Turn the system on by pressing the POWER Button.
  3. Tap the screen using the stylus when the Touch the Touch Screen to continue message appears.
  4. Tap the brightness icon (small sun) in the bottom-left square of the lower screen to adjust the screens' brightness.

    • The original Nintendo DS (model NTR-001) has two brightness settings: on and off. The battery will last six to 10 hours, depending on the type of game activity.
    • The Nintendo DS Lite (model USG-001) has four levels of brightness. The battery will last 15-19 hours on the lowest settings, and 5-8 hours on the brightest. This can vary depending on the type of game activity.
