Possible solutions

• If you are using a microSD or microSD Express card with your console, remove it, redownload the game in question, then try backing up the save data again.
  • How to remove a microSD card
    1. With the console powered off, locate the microSD card slot:
       • Nintendo Switch 2: Gently swing the adjustable stand open to show the microSD card slot.
       • Nintendo Switch – OLED Model: Gently swing the adjustable stand open to show the microSD card slot.
       • Nintendo Switch: Gently swing the stand open to show the microSD card slot.
       • Nintendo Switch Lite: Gently open the microSD card slot cover.
    2. Gently push down on the top of the microSD card until you hear a click, then slide it out of the microSD card slot.

  • How to redownload a game or DLC

    To redownload a digital game or DLC, load the virtual game card:

    1. Select Virtual Game Cards Tarjetas de juego virtuales Cartes de jeu virtuelles Cartões de jogo virtuais from the HOME Menu.
    2. Select your user.
    3. If prompted, enter your user verification PIN or enter your Nintendo Account password.
    4. Select the item you want to redownload from the list of your virtual game cards.

    6. The game (and any DLC for that game you have purchased) will begin downloading. You can check the download status on the HOME Menu.

  • How to use Save Data Cloud Backup on Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch

    If you have a Nintendo Switch Online membership, you can use the Save Data Cloud backup feature to back up save data from one console and download it on another.

    • To back up save data:
      1. Using the console that has the save data you want to back up, from the HOME Menu, highlight the icon for a game with save data you want to back up.
      2. Press the - Button or + Button to access the software menu.
      3. Select Save Data Cloud.
      4. Select the desired user, then select Back Up Save Data.
    • To download save data:
      1. Using the console that you want to download the save data to, from the HOME Menu, highlight the icon for a game with save data you want to download.
      2. Press the - Button or + Button to access the software menu.
      3. Select Save Data Cloud.
      4. Select the desired user, then select Download Save Data.

  • Save Data Cloud Backup works when the microSD or microSD Express card is not inserted

    There may be an issue with the microSD or microSD Express card. You can try formatting the card and then try using it again, or you may need to replace it with a different card.

• Initialize the console without deleting the save data, then try backing up the save data again.
  • How to initialize the Nintendo Switch 2 console without deleting save data

    Important: Save data, screenshots, and user information will not be deleted. However, any software saved on the microSD card will no longer be usable. Software can be redownloaded by the Nintendo Account that purchased it.

    1. Power off the system by holding down the POWER Button for three seconds, then select Power Options, and then Turn Off.
       • If the console does not respond, hold down the POWER Button for twelve seconds to force it to shut down.
    2. Press and hold down the volume up (+) and volume down (-) buttons, press the POWER Button once to turn the system on.
    3. Keep holding down the volume buttons until the menu for Recovery Mode appears.
    4. Once in Recovery Mode, select Restore Settings (Keep User Data).
       • If a Parental Control PIN has been set for the system, you will be prompted to enter it to proceed.
    5. Read through the information, then select Next.
    6. Select Restore Settings (Keep User Data).

  • How to initialize the Nintendo Switch console without deleting save data

• Reset or clear the cache on the console, then try backing up the save data again.
  • How to reset cache on Nintendo Switch
    1. Select System Settings from the HOME Menu.
    2. Scroll down and select System.
    3. Scroll down again, and select Formatting Options.
    4. Select Reset Cache.
    5. Select the user that you wish to clear cached data for, and then select Reset to confirm.
       • This will delete saved IDs, passwords, cookies, history, and other cached website data. It will not affect the user's downloaded games or game save data.

    1. Select System Settings from the HOME Menu.
    2. Scroll down and select System.
    3. On the right, select Data-Clear Options.
    4. Select Clear Cache.
    5. Select Clear Data to confirm.
