USB Ports Not Working on the Nintendo Switch 2 Dock

Nintendo Switch 2

Steps for when accessories plugged into the USB ports on the Nintendo Switch 2 dock won't charge.

Before you start

You will need:

  • Your Nintendo Switch 2 console
  • Your Nintendo Switch 2 dock
  • Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter (NGN-01) Image of a Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter (MOD. NGN-01) and USB-C Cable
  • Access to power
  • A USB cable for charging
  • The affected accessory

What to do

  1. Confirm your Nintendo Switch 2 is on or in Sleep mode before docking.
    • The USB ports on the Nintendo Switch 2 dock will not output power if there is no console docked, or if the console is completely powered off.
  2. Unplug the AC adapter from the dock and plug it in to the console directly to confirm it charges the console.
    • The AC adapter doesn't charge the console

      Test another AC adapter.

      • Plug a different AC adapter into the console directly to confirm it charges.
      • Plug it into the Nintendo Switch 2 dock, then dock the console, and test the USB ports.
  3. Confirm that you're using an adequately powerful AC adapter with the dock.
    • The Nintendo Switch AC adapter (Model HAC-002) can be used to power the Nintendo Switch 2 console when plugged into the console directly, but can not provide enough power to be used with the dock.
    • The Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter (Model NGN-01) Image of a Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter (MOD. NGN-01) and USB-C Cable is recommended to be used with the dock. Another AC adapter and cable can be used if the power output is at least 54W.
  4. Verify you are using the USB charging cable included with the accessory.
  5. Check all the cable for any damage (kinks, nicks, cuts, frayed cables, etc.)
    • If any of the cables are damaged, they will need to be replaced with a new cable.
  6. Reconnect the USB charging cable to the accessory, and to a USB port on the dock, ensuring that the plug is inserted all the way. Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller connected via a USB-C to USB-A cable to the Nintendo Switch 2 dock which is connected to the AC Adapter plugged into a wall outlet.

Situation not resolved

If the new AC adapter works, then there is an issue with the original and it will need to be replaced.

If the USB ports on the dock still don't work with the new AC adapter, the dock will need to be sent in for service.
