Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller Power Issues

The information in this article can help you when the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller does not power on, cannot be charged, or the battery charge does not last very long.

Before you start

You will need:

  • Your Nintendo Switch 2 console
  • Your Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller
  • Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter (model No. NGN-01)

What to do

  1. Reset the AC adapter by leaving it unplugged from both ends for at least 30 seconds.
    • While performing this step, verify you are using the Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter (model No. NGN-01)The Nintendo Switch 2 AC Adapter (MOD. NGN-01) and USB-C Cable and check for any cuts, kinks, fraying, etc., on the USB-C cable.
    • If any damage is found, or if a different charger is being used, replacing it with the correct accessory may resolve the problem.

      You can purchase the Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter from Nintendo Store.

  2. Connect the Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter directly to the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller and to a wall outletNintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller connected to the Nintendo Switch 2 AC Adapter that is connected to a wall outlet.
    • While charging, the recharge LEDThe Diagram showing the top of the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller on the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller will remain lit. (Once the battery charge is complete, the recharge LED will power off.)
  1. Did the recharge LED on the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller power on?
  2. Power on the Nintendo Switch 2 console and press any button on the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller.

    If the player LEDs turn on momentarily and shut off, the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller will need to be paired.

    • How to pair the Pro Controller to Nintendo Switch 2

      The Pro Controller can be paired to the Nintendo Switch 2 console in the following ways:

      USB connection pairing
      1. Place the Nintendo Switch 2 console in the dock with LAN port.
      2. Connect the Pro Controller to the dock with LAN port using the included USB cable (model No. HAC-010)Nintendo Switch Pro Controller being connected to the Nintendo Switch 2 Dock.

      Button pairing or wireless pairing
      1. From the HOME Menu, select ControllersControlesManettesControles, then Change Grip and OrderChange Grip and Order screen on Nintendo Switch 2.
      2. While on the "Change Grip and Order" screen, press and hold down the SYNC ButtonDiagram of the back of the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller for at least one second on the Pro Controller you wish to pair.

    If the recharge LED remains lit while the AC adapter is plugged in, but the player LEDs do not turn on, allow the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller to charge for at least 15 to 30 minutes. Then pair it to the console.

    If the recharge LED does not turn on at all, test the AC adapter by connecting it directly to the consoleThe Nintendo Switch 2 AC Adapter being inserted into both an electrical outlet and the USB connector on the bottom of the console, and check if the console charges.

    Is the AC adapter working?
  3. Connect the AC adapter to the dock and to a wall outlet, then connect the included USB charging cable to the dock and to the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro ControllerNintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller connected via USB cable to the Nintendo Switch 2 Dock which is connected to an AC Adapter plugged into a wall outlet.

    • The Nintendo Switch 2 console does not need to be docked in order to charge the Pro Controller.
    Did the recharge LED on the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller power on after a few seconds?

    Try the following:

    • Use a different wall outlet.
    • If possible, use a different Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter.
      • If another AC adapter works with the console, the original Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter will need to be replaced.
  4. Continue using the console and Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller as usual and monitor the situation.

    Try the following:

    • Use a different USB port on the dock.
    • Use a different USB charging cable.
    • If possible, use a different dock.

Additional information

The Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller takes approximately 3 hours to fully charge.
