Volume or Sound Quality Problems (Popping, Crackling, Etc)
Information in this article can help you when your system produces pops, hisses, scratching, or buzzing noises.
This normally happens when the system volume is below 30%, and is a function of the way the system was designed. Because all systems are designed this way, a service request is not needed as it will not stop this from happening.
To prevent this from happening, play at a slightly higher volume or try a pair of headphones with a volume setting.
The Nintendo 2DS has only a single speaker. Because of this, its highest volume is lower than that of the Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo 3DS XL. Its sound-output is also set to "Mono" by default. Using a pair of headphones and changing this setting to "Stereo" or "Surround" should resolve any sound quality issues.
- When not using headphones, please change this setting back to "Mono."
Situation not resolved
If the speakers are still producing pops, hisses, or crackling at volumes greater than 30%, the system will need to be serviced.
The following systems are available for service from Nintendo:
- New Nintendo 2DS XL - Serial numbers begin with "NW"
