How to Remove, Reseat, or Replace the Battery in a Nintendo 3DS Family System

In this article, you'll how to change the Nintendo 3DS Battery Pack.

Note
  • The New Nintendo 2DS XL does not have a removable battery cover nor is the battery pack accessible to the user.
    • If you are experiencing power or charge issues, learn more about why your system doesn't hold a charge.
  • Do not attempt to remove the battery cover with anything other than the recommended type and size of screwdriver.
  • Do not over tighten the screws. This may result in stripping them or cracking the housing.
  • Depending on the model, the screws may be secured to the back panel. If this is the case, simply losen the screws.

Complete these steps

  1. Which Nintendo 3DS family system are you using?
    1. Hold the POWER Button down until the system turns off.
    2. Remove any Game Cards from the system.
    3. Turn the four cross-head (+) screws on the bottom of the system counter clockwise to remove the battery cover.

    4. Remove the battery pack from the system.

    5. Wait at least 10 seconds, and then insert the new battery pack (or old battery if you are reseating it).
      • Ensure that the gold contacts on the battery touch the gold contacts on the system.

    6. Replace the battery cover and tighten the four screws, being careful not to over tighten.

    7. Turn the system back on to verify correct battery installation.
    1. Hold the POWER Button down until the system turns off.
    2. Remove any Game Cards from the system.
    3. Turn the two cross-head (+) screws on the bottom of the system counter clockwise to remove the battery cover.

    4. Gently pry on the small slots on each side near the L and R Buttons. Once the cover begins to separate from the system, continue prying the cover open, moving towards the front of the system.
      • To avoid damage to your system, do not use excessive force.

    5. Remove the battery pack from the system.

    6. Wait at least 10 seconds, and then insert the new battery pack (or old battery if you are reseating it).
      • Ensure that the gold contacts on the battery touch the gold contacts on the system.

    7. Replace the battery cover and tighten the two screws, being careful not to over tighten.

    8. Turn the system back on to verify correct battery installation.
    1. Hold the POWER Button down until the system turns off.
    2. Remove any Game Cards from the system.
    3. Loosen the two cross-head (+) screws on the battery cover with a screwdriver.

    4. Gently pry on the small slot at the top of the Nintendo 2DS and remove the battery cover as shown in the image.
      • To avoid damage to your system, do not use excessive force.

    5. Remove the battery pack from the system.

    6. Wait at least 10 seconds, and then insert the new battery pack (or old battery if you are reseating it).
      • Ensure that the gold contacts on the battery touch the gold contacts on the system.

    7. Replace the battery cover using enough pressure so that it snaps into place. Tighten the two screws, being careful not to overtighten them.

    8. Turn the system back on to verify correct battery installation.
    1. Hold the POWER Button down until the system turns off.
    2. Remove any Game Cards from the system.
    3. Turn the two cross-head (+) screws on the bottom of the system counter clockwise to remove the battery cover.

    4. Insert the nub of the stylus between the system and the cover and lift if slightly upward to remove the battery cover. Do not insert your fingernails between the cover and the system.
      • To avoid damage to your system, do not use excessive force.

    5. Remove the battery pack from the system. Wait at least 10 seconds, and then insert the new battery pack (or old battery if you are reseating it).
      • Ensure that the gold contacts on the battery touch the gold contacts on the system.

    6. Replace the cover and tighten the two screws, being careful not to over tighten.

    7. Turn the system back on to verify correct battery installation.

    Important:The New Nintendo 2DS XL battery is not accessible to the user.
