Distorted Audio or Loud Static Noise on External Audio Devices Connected to Nintendo Switch

Steps for when static noise, buzzing, or a crackling sound can be heard coming from an audio device connected to your Nintendo Switch console, such as wireless Bluetooth headphones/speakers, a wired headset, or external speakers.

What to do

  1. Undock the console.
  2. Unplug the wired audio device or disconnect the Bluetooth audio device being used.
  3. Press the volume buttons on the console until you can hear the audio through the console speakers.
    • If the setting "Mute when Headphones are Disconnected" is turned on, the sound on the console speakers will be muted until the volume buttons are pressed on the console, or until this setting is manually turned off.
  4. Confirm your console has the latest system update.
  5. Restart the console.

      1. Press and hold the POWER ButtonThe POWER and Volume Buttons highlighted on Nintendo Switch for at least three seconds.

      3. Select Restart.
  6. If the audio device has its own power, power off the device and then power it back on.
  7. Plug the wired audio device back in or reconnect the Bluetooth audio device.
  8. Try using a different audio device. There may be an issue with the original audio device being used.

Situation not resolved
