Download Does Not Progress While in Sleep Mode on Nintendo Switch

Steps for when you try to download content on your Nintendo Switch console while it is in sleep mode, but the download does not appear to begin or progress.

Software and add-on content can be downloaded to your Nintendo Switch console while it is in sleep mode when it is connected to the Internet and there is sufficient space on the system memory or inserted microSD / microSD Express card. Downloads can also be initiated from your PC or smartphone while the console is in sleep mode.

What to do

  1. Confirm your console has the latest system update.
  2. Restart the console.

      3. Select Restart.
  3. Test your console has an active Internet connection.
    • How to test your Internet connection
      1. Select the System Settings icon from the HOME Menu.
      2. Scroll down through the System Settings menu and select Internet.
      3. Select Test Connection. The test will begin immediately. A message will appear stating if the test was successful with the results listed below.
        • Connection Name

          The name you have given the Internet connection, within the connection settings. If you have not named the connection, it will be displayed.

        • SSID

          The SSID of the wireless network you are connecting to.

        • Internet Connection

          The result of an Internet connectivity test. If Success is displayed, it indicates the console was able to connect with Nintendo's services.

        • Global IP Address

          The global IP address of the network you are using.

        • NAT Type

          The results of a NAT test for the network you are connecting to. This will range from A (best for peer-to-peer communication) to F (unable to complete peer-to-peer communication).

        • Download Speed

          The speed at which data was sent to you over the network you are connecting to.

        • Upload Speed

          The speed at which data was sent from you over the network you are connecting to.

    • If using a wireless internet connection, keep the console in range of the router when it is placed in sleep mode with no metal or electronic equipment in between.
    • If you are connected to the Internet via a wired (LAN) connection, go to System Settings and select Sleep Mode, then turn On the setting “Maintain Internet Connection in Sleep Mode”.
  4. Verify the current amount of storage space on your console.

Situation not resolved

Try completing the download with your console on and out of sleep mode.
