Console Buttons Are Not Responding Correctly on Nintendo Switch Lite

The information in this article can help you when the system buttons do not respond or respond incorrectly on Nintendo Switch Lite.

Note

The button test feature on Nintendo Switch Lite is not available for the following system buttons:

  • POWER
  • Volume
  • HOME
  • Capture

What to do

  1. If there are any wireless controllers paired to the system, use the touch screen to verify that the Console Button Input setting is set to OnOuiSim.
  2. Ensure your console has the latest system update installed. If the buttons are unresponsive, use the touch screen to navigate through System Settings.
  3. Check if the non-responsive buttons feel sticky or stuck down.
    • If any are sticky or stuck, power off the system and clean the area around the problematic buttons using a soft, dry toothbrush.

      Important: Avoid using any cleaners or fluids.

  2. While in the HOME Menu, press and hold down the POWER Button for at least one second.

    If the system does not go into sleep mode, continue to troubleshoot the POWER Button.

    While navigating the menus or within a game, press the HOME Button.

    If the system does not return to the HOME Menu, Nintendo Switch Lite will need to be serviced.

    While in the HOME Menu, verify that volume changes on the console speakers when the volume buttons are pressed.

    If the volume buttons are still unresponsive, continue to troubleshoot the volume.

    While in the HOME Menu, press the Capture Button.

    If there is no response, continue to troubleshoot capturing screenshots.

    Perform a button test for the unresponsive button.

    Did the button respond during the button test?
  3. Was the non-responsive button issue occurring with a specific game or application?

    If the button test fails, Nintendo Switch Lite will need to be serviced.
