Unable to Capture Screenshots on Nintendo Switch

Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, Nintendo Switch - OLED Model

The information in this article can help you when:

  • You are unable to capture screenshots on a Nintendo Switch system.
  • A message is displayed indicating you must free up space in order to capture screenshots.
  • There is no response when pressing the Capture Button.

Note: You may be unable to capture screenshots during certain parts of the Ring Fit Adventure and Super Mario 3D All-Stars games after your system version has been updated to 15.0.0. Thank you for your patience while we look into this issue.

  1. Which system are you using?
    1. Undock the Nintendo Switch console and attach the Joy-Con controllers.
    2. While in the HOME Menu, press the Capture Button on the left Joy-Con controller.
      • If a message is received about needing to free up space, you can do the following:
      • If the issue happens only while using a specific application, it’s possible that the Capture button is not compatible with that application. Check the software manual.
    3. If you have verified that the intended application is compatible with the Capture Button, try testing the application using a different Joy-Con controller.
      • If a second left Joy-Con works correctly on the console, the original left Joy-Con will need to be serviced.

Important: To set up a service request for Joy-Con only, please visit the Nintendo Service Center.

    Situation not resolved

If there is no response with another left Joy-Con, then the Nintendo Switch console will need to be serviced. For testing purposes include the non-working left Joy-Con controller.

For your convenience, Nintendo provides a quick and easy-to-use online service request process.
