Connectivity Issues Between Pokémon GO and Poké Ball Plus

Pokémon GO

Follow these steps when the connection between the Pokémon GO app and Poké Ball Plus is not working or is unstable, or you receive the error message "Unable to connect to Poké Ball Plus."

Note
  • Pokémon GO connects to the Poké Ball Plus via Bluetooth.
  • Once connected, the Poké Ball Plus functions exactly like a Pokémon GO Plus.

What to do

  1. Verify that your smart device and its operating system is supported.
  2. Verify that Bluetooth is enabled on your smartphone. (If you’re not sure how to do this, check with your phone manufacturer.)
  3. Check that your version of the Pokémon GO app is 0.37.0 or higher.
    • To check the version, from the field map click the Poké Ball icon, then select Settings. The version will appear in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
  4. Reset the Poké Ball Plus.
  5. If the Poké Ball Plus does not vibrate or the LED does not light up when you press down on the control stick, verify that it has sufficient battery charge.
  6. Pair the Pokémon GO smart device app to the Poké Ball Plus.
    • If the Poké Ball Plus is currently paired to a supported game on Nintendo Switch 2 or Nintendo Switch, save your game progress and power off the console, or put it to sleep mode, then pair the app with the Poké Ball Plus.
  7. If the Poké Ball Plus is unable to connect to the Pokémon GO app, check if the Poké Ball Plus icon is displayed in the upper right corner of the field map within the app.
  1. Is the icon displayed?
    1. If the Poké Ball Plus is still unable to connect, remove it from the app by tapping the Poké Ball icon in the bottom-center of the screen, then select Settings. Scroll down to Poké Ball Plus and select it, then click on the Eject icon to the right of the Poké Ball Plus icon.
    2. Once the Poké Ball Plus icon disappears, attempt to pair the accessory again.
    3. If the issue persists, try the following (attempt to connect both devices after each step):
      • Restart the Pokémon GO app.
      • Restart your smart device.
      • Unpair the Poké Ball Plus from your smart device (consult the owner’s manual for your smart device or contact the manufacturer for assistance).
      • Try connecting the Poké Ball Plus to Pokémon GO on a different supported smart device.
