What Was SpotPass?
SpotPass was a feature that let Nintendo 3DS family system detect wireless hotspots or wireless LAN access points and obtain information, game data, free software, and videos from Nintendo or the software in use. The type of data varied depending on the type of data used on the system.
As of April 8, 2024, SpotPass and other functionality that uses online communication has ended for Nintendo 3DS family software.
SpotPass was active while playing a game or while the system was in Sleep Mode. Most SpotPass notifications could be stopped by restricting Online Interactions in Parental Controls, or disabling wireless communication.
When a SpotPass notification was received, the notification LED would blink blue.
- The Notification LED may not light for some types of data.
Within the service area of a Nintendo Zone or other wireless services, the system could connect to the Internet automatically.
