Before you start
You will need:
- Your Nintendo Switch system, Nintendo Switch AC adapter, and dock (if using a Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch – OLED Model)
- Your Nintendo Switch Pro Controller and USB charging cable
- An Internet connection
What to do

Pair to Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch — OLED Model
- Install the latest system update.

How to check for the latest system update
- Select System Settings on the HOME Menu.
- Scroll down to the bottom of the System Settings menu and select System.
- Select System Update to start the system update process.
- The system will check to see if an update is available.

Console already has the latest system update
- Press and hold the POWER Button for at least three seconds.
- Select Power Options.
- Select Restart.

How to check for the latest system update
- Check that the model number on the back of your controller, directly beneath the Nintendo logo, is HAC-013.

Model number is not HAC-013
All official Nintendo Switch Pro Controllers have a model number of HAC-013, regardless of the color or special edition (i.e., Black, Splatoon 2 Edition, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Edition, etc.).
If a different controller is being used, replacing it with model No. HAC-013 may resolve the issue.
- If you are having issues with a third-party controller, contact the controller's manufacturer for further assistance.

Model number is not HAC-013
- Place the console in the dock and power it on.
- Connect the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller to the dock using the included USB charging cable. Then press any button on the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller, such as the A Button, to power it on and pair it to the console.

Nintendo Switch Pro controller cannot be paired using the USB charging cable
- If you are still having issues pairing the controller, the following steps may be helpful:
- Press the SYNC Button once, then press any other button, such as the A Button on the controller to power it on again.
- Use a different USB port on the dock.
- Use a different USB charging cable.
- Use a different dock, if available.
- If the issue only occurs with the original dock, see USB Ports Not Working on the Nintendo Switch Dock.
- Pair the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller wirelessly.
- If the Pro Controller cannot be paired to the Nintendo Switch console, either wirelessly or via the USB charging cable, the Pro Controller will need to be repaired.

- Install the latest system update.

- Disconnect all controllers wirelessly paired to the console.

How to disconnect all wireless controllers
- From the HOME Menu, open System Settings.
- Select Controllers and Sensors.
- Scroll down and select Disconnect Controllers.
- Press and hold the X Button until the controllers are disconnected.
This will clear all controller pairings. Controllers will need to be paired to the console again.

- Pair the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller wirelessly.

How to pair the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller wirelessly
- From the HOME Menu, select Controllers.
- Select Change Grip and Order.
- While the following screen is displayed, press and hold down the SYNC Button for at least one second on the Pro Controller you wish to pair.

How to pair the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller wirelessly
- If you have a licensed accessory that lets you connect your Nintendo Switch Pro Controller using the USB charging cable, such as the HORI Dual USB Playstand for Nintendo Switch Lite, connect the controller to the accessory and press the A Button to pair it.

Do not have accessory or still unable to pair Nintendo Switch Pro Controller
If the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller cannot be paired to Nintendo Switch Lite, the controller will need to be repaired.

- Install the latest system update.
Additional information
- When a Bluetooth audio device is connected, no more than two wireless controllers can be connected to the system. Disconnect the Bluetooth audio device in order to connect a third controller.
- In order to use the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller, some games such as Sonic Mania may require that the Joy-Con controllers be detached from the Nintendo Switch console while in handheld or tabletop mode.
- Up to eight wireless controllers can be connected to a Nintendo Switch system; however, the maximum number of controllers that can be used will vary depending on the type of controllers, the features, and the software being used.
