User Nickname Is Displayed as Question Marks (???) on Nintendo Switch

The information in this article can help you when the nickname from a User profile on Nintendo Switch is displayed as question marks or you receive one of the following messages while starting or resuming software:
- One or more nicknames cannot be used and will now appear as "???"
- The "???" nickname can be changed on the player’s user page.
- This nickname cannot be used.
Note: There's a small chance that the nickname will display as "???" after a service request is completed. This is normal and it will just need to be updated.
Information
Your nickname will display as "???" if it contains inappropriate, harmful, or otherwise unaccepted words.
What to do
- Change the User nickname in the User Profile Settings.
- Please keep in mind our Community Guidelines when choosing a new User nickname.
- Some games also feature unique usernames that must be changed within the game.
