Error Codes: 2002-4301 to 2002-4500

Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, Nintendo Switch - OLED Model

Information to help you when an error code from 2002-4301 to 2002-4500 is received when powering on the Nintendo Switch 2 or Nintendo Switch console, or while performing a User & Save Data Transfer.

What to do

When is the error code being displayed?

At start up or while using amiibo
Restart the console.

  1. Press and hold the POWER Button for at least three seconds.

- Console is not responding
  
  If the console is not responding, hold down the POWER Button for twelve seconds to force the console to shut down, then power it back it on.
1. Is the error displayed again after restarting the console? Error displays Error no longer displays
2. Is a microSD card inserted in the console? microSD card present No microSD card
  
  Check that your console has the latest system update.
  
  How to check for the latest system update
  
  Select System Settings on the HOME Menu.
  
  Scroll down to the bottom of the System Settings menu and select System.
  
  Select System Update to start the system update process.
  
  The system will check to see if an update is available.

  Continue using the console as normal and monitor the situation.
3. Important: Nintendo Switch 2 is only compatible with microSD Express cards.
  
  Try the following:
  
  Reseat the microSD card by removing and reinserting the microSD card.

  With the console powered off, locate the microSD card slot:
  
  Nintendo Switch 2: Gently swing the adjustable stand open to show the microSD card slot.
  
  Nintendo Switch – OLED Model: Gently swing the adjustable stand open to show the microSD card slot.
  
  Nintendo Switch: Gently swing the stand open to show the microSD card slot.
  
  Nintendo Switch Lite: Gently open the microSD card slot cover.
  
  Gently push down on the top of the microSD card until you hear a click, then slide it out of the microSD card slot.

  How to insert a microSD card
  
  Press and hold the POWER button on the console for at least three seconds.
  
  Select Power Options, then Turn Off.
  
  Locate the microSD card slot:
  
  Nintendo Switch 2: Gently swing the adjustable stand open to show the microSD card slot.
  
  Nintendo Switch – OLED Model: Gently swing the adjustable stand open to show the microSD card slot.
  
  Nintendo Switch: Gently swing the stand open to show the microSD card slot.
  
  Nintendo Switch Lite: Gently open the microSD card slot cover .
  
  Check that the microSD card is properly positioned with the label facing away from the console.
  
  Insert the microSD card into the slot and gently push down until it clicks into place.

  Format the microSD card.
  
  How to format a microSD Express card
  
  Important
  
  Once formatted, the information on the microSD Express card cannot be recovered. If screenshots or videos are stored on the microSD Express card, be sure to first back up the information on a computer.
  
  If downloadable software was saved to the microSD Express card, it can be redownloaded using the same Nintendo Account it was purchased with.
  
  Save data is stored on the console’s system memory, so it will not be lost in this process.
  
  From the HOME Menu, select System Settings.
  
  Scroll down the options on the left and select System.
  
  Scroll down the options on the right-hand side and select Formatting Options.
  
  If prompted, enter your Parental Controls PIN.
  
  Select Format microSD Card, then Continue.
  
  The following message will be displayed, “All data on the microSD card will be deleted. Data cannot be restored once it is deleted. Continue?”
  
  To continue, select Format. The console will then restart.

  How to format a microSD card
  
  Important

  How to redownload a game or DLC
  
  To redownload a digital game or DLC, load the virtual game card:
  
  Select Virtual Game Cards Tarjetas de juego virtuales Cartes de jeu virtuelles Cartões de jogo virtuais from the HOME Menu.
  
  Select your user.
  
  If prompted, enter your user verification PIN or enter your Nintendo Account password.
  
  Select the item you want to redownload from the list of your virtual game cards.
  
  Select Load on This System Cargar en esta consola Charger sur cette console Carregar neste console.
  
  The game (and any DLC for that game you have purchased) will begin downloading. You can check the download status on the HOME Menu.

  Issue Persists
  
  If the error persists with multiple supported microSD or microSD Express cards, or when downloading directly to the console memory, the console will need to be serviced. For testing purposes, please include one or two of the problematic cards with the Service Request.

  If the error persists upon start up even though a microSD card is not being used, then the console will need to be serviced.

During a Save Data Transfer on Nintendo Switch 2
1. After the Save Data Transfer has been suspended, check for corrupt data on the source console.

    From the HOME Menu, select System Settings.
    Scroll down the options on the left and select Data Management.
    
    On the right-hand side select Manage Software, then select the software you would like to check.
    
    Select Scan for Corrupted Data.
  - Corrupt data found
    Delete the corrupt save data.
    
    Try to transfer the User Account again.
2. If error code 2002-4315 is displayed:
  1. Power off the console.

      Press and hold the POWER Button for at least three seconds.
      
      Select Power Options.
      
      Select Power Off.
  2. Initialize the console without deleting save data.

      Important: Save data, screenshots, and user information will not be deleted. However, any software saved on the microSD card will no longer be usable. Software can be redownloaded by the Nintendo Account that purchased it.
      
      Power off the system by holding down the POWER Button for three seconds, then select Power Options, and then Turn Off.
      
      If the console does not respond, hold down the POWER Button for twelve seconds to force it to shut down.
      
      Press and hold down the volume up (+) and volume down (-) buttons, press the POWER Button once to turn the system on.
      
      Keep holding down the volume buttons until the menu for Recovery Mode appears.
      
      Once in Recovery Mode, select Restore Settings (Keep User Data).
      
      If a Parental Control PIN has been set for the system, you will be prompted to enter it to proceed.
      
      Read through the information, then select Next.
      
      Select Restore Settings (Keep User Data).

  3. Try to transfer the save data again.

      Follow these steps on the source console where the save data is stored.
      
      Open System Settings from the HOME Menu.
      
      Select Data Management, then select Transfer Your Save Data.
      
      Select Send Save Data to Another Console, then select whether you are sending the save data to a Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2 console.
      
      Select the user whose save data file you wish to transfer .
      
      Select the save data file for the software title you want to send to another system .
      
      Select Send Save Data .
      
      Important: This does not create a copy of your save data. Once sent, the save data file will be deleted from the source system.
      
      Follow these steps on the target console that will receive the save data.
      
      Select System Settings from the HOME Menu.
      
      Select Data Management, and then Transfer Your Save Data.
      
      Select Receive Save Data and place both systems near each other.
      
      Important: If there is existing save data for the same software on the target system, you can either cancel the transfer or select Overwrite Save Data to continue. Keep in mind that, once deleted, overwritten save data cannot be recovered.
      
      Select OK once the save data transfer is complete. You can now resume your game on the target system.

- Issue Persists

During a User & Save Data Transfer on Nintendo Switch

  3. Try to transfer the User Account again.

      Prepare the transfer on the source console
      
      Select System Settings from the HOME Menu, then Users, and then Transfer Your User Data.
      
      Select Next, and then Next again, then select Source Console to indicate that the content will be transferred from this system.
      
      Select Continue, and then use the target console for the next steps.
      
      Prepare to receive the data on the target console
      
      Select System Settings from the HOME Menu, then Users, and then Transfer Your User Data.
      
      Select Next, then Next again, and then select Target Console to indicate that the content will be transferred to this system.
      
      Select Sign in and choose to sign in using your Nintendo Account e-mail address or sign-in ID.
      
      Enter either the e-mail address or sign-in ID associated with your Nintendo Account and the password, then select Sign in, and then Next.
      
      Complete the transfer on the source console
      
      Wait for the target system to be found, and then select Transfer.
      
      The transfer process will begin, wait for this process to complete.
      
      Once complete, select End to complete the process. If no users are left on the console after the transfer is complete, a placeholder user account will be created.
