The information in this article can help you when setting up a Nintendo Network ID you receive the error message "This Nintendo Network ID cannot be used."
What to do
This message will appear when the Nintendo Network ID does not meet the criteria specified onscreen. Enter a new Nintendo Network ID that meets the following criteria:
- The Nintendo Network ID should be between 6 and 16 characters long, and can contain letters, numbers, periods, dashes, and underscores.
- Punctuation cannot be used as the first or last character of the ID. Also, two or more punctuation characters cannot be used in a row.
- The Nintendo Network ID cannot contain profanity or offensive language.
Additional tips
- The Nintendo Network ID is a unique name that will represent you on the Nintendo Network. This can be different than the name you have given your Mii character.
- The ID you choose will be visible to others using online services. Please do not include any personal information or offensive content in your ID.
- Please choose your ID carefully - once it's set, it cannot be changed.
