How to Add Friends on Nintendo Switch
Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, Nintendo Switch - OLED Model
Follow these steps to add friends on your Nintendo Switch console or with the Nintendo Switch app.
Before you start
- You must link your User Account to a Nintendo Account prior to sending or receiving friend requests.

How to link an existing Nintendo Account to Nintendo Switch 2 or Nintendo Switch
- Select System Settings on the HOME Menu.
- Scroll down to highlight UsersUsuariosUtilisateursUsuários, then select the user you want to link to to access the Profile Settings.
- Select Sign in to a Nintendo Account or Link Nintendo Account.
- Sign in to your Nintendo Account.
- If you've forgotten your Nintendo Account sign-in information, you can recover or reset your sign-in information.
- Select Link to link your Nintendo Account to the user account on the console.
- Once the Nintendo Account is linked, it cannot be unlinked or changed for that user account.
- Click OK on the confirmation message to return to the system settings.

How to create and link a new Nintendo Account to Nintendo Switch 2 or Nintendo Switch
- Select System Settings on the HOME Menu.
- Scroll down to highlight UsersUsuariosUtilisateursUsuários, then select the appropriate user account to access the Profile Settings.
- Select Sign in to a Nintendo Account or Link Nintendo Account.
- Select Create a new account.
- Optional: You have the option to select Send account-creation instructions via email to receive steps to link your Nintendo Account with a confirmation code. You can learn more about adding an account with a confirmation code or continue with these steps.
- Use a smart device to scan the QR code to visit the Nintendo Account website. If you do not have a smart device, the link is https://accounts.nintendo.com/.
- Create your Nintendo Account on the Nintendo Account website.
- Return to your Nintendo Switch console and Sign in to your Nintendo Account. You may need to press the B button to return to the sign-in page.
- If you have forgotten your Nintendo Account sign-in information, you can recover or reset your sign-in information.
- Click OK on the confirmation message to return to the system settings.

How to link an existing Nintendo Account to Nintendo Switch 2 or Nintendo Switch
- To add friends on your Nintendo Switch console, you will need to update your console to the latest system menu version.

How to check for the latest system update
- Select System Settings on the HOME Menu.
- Scroll down to the bottom of the System Settings menu and select System.
- Select System Update to start the system update process.
- The system will check to see if an update is available.

How to check for the latest system update
- To add friends with the Nintendo Switch App, you will need access to a smart device with the latest version of the app.

There are two ways to become friends. Either you must accept a friend request you have received or the other user must accept a friend request sent by you. You can do this either on your Nintendo Switch console, or with the Nintendo Switch App.

- Select your user icon (My Page) on the HOME Menu

- From this screen, you can accept pending friend requests that have been sent to you, view pending friend requests you have sent, or use the following methods to send friend requests:
- Friend Suggestions: Select this option to send friend requests to users that you are friends with on Nintendo smart device apps (Super Mario Run, etc.), Wii U, or Nintendo 3DS.
- You must link your Nintendo Network ID to your Nintendo Account prior to having visibility to your Wii U and Nintendo 3DS friends.

How to link a NNID to a Nintendo Account
- Go to the Nintendo Account website and sign in to your Nintendo Account.
- Select User information, then Linked apps and services to view the accounts that are currently linked to your Nintendo Account.
- In the "Linked accounts" section, select EditEditarModifierEditar.
- Select the checkmark next to Nintendo Network ID.
- Follow the onscreen steps to enter your NNID and password.

How to link a NNID to a Nintendo Account
- If you do not want Friend Suggestions to display, change your Friend Suggestion Feature Setting.
- You must link your Nintendo Network ID to your Nintendo Account prior to having visibility to your Wii U and Nintendo 3DS friends.
- Search for Local Users: Select this option to exchange friend requests with nearby users.
- If the Nintendo Switch console is not connected to the Internet, the friend request will be temporarily saved on the console. The friend request will then be sent automatically the next time the console connects to the Internet.
- Search for Users You Played With: Select this option to send friend requests to users you have played with during local wireless or online play.
- Search with Friend Code: Select this option to send a friend request to another user by entering their friend code.
- Friend Suggestions: Select this option to send friend requests to users that you are friends with on Nintendo smart device apps (Super Mario Run, etc.), Wii U, or Nintendo 3DS.
- Select your user icon (My Page) on the HOME Menu

Add friends with the Nintendo Switch App
- Open the Nintendo Switch App on your smart device.
- Select your User Icon in the top right corner.
- To copy and share your own friend code, you can:
- Select the copy icon to copy the text to your clipboard, then share it to someone who wants to add you as a friend.
- Select the three dots icon, then Copy as URL to create a special URL that anyone can use to send you a friend request.
- Select the three dots icon, then Display QR Code to display a QR Code that can be scanned by another user via the app to send you a friend request. The QR Code can also be shared or saved as an image.
- To add a friend, select Add Friend, then one of the following options:
- Select Friend Code to enter the other user’s friend code, then select Search to send them a friend request.
- Select QR Code to scan another user’s QR Code.
- Select a received friend request and then select Become Friends to accept it.
Additional information
- Your Friend List is tied to your Nintendo Account, so if you use the same Nintendo Account on Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and the Nintendo Switch App, you will have the same friends available. Adding or removing a friend through any of these options will be reflected on the others.
- When viewing someone's profile in your Friend List, you can select Add Note to enter a note about the user. This can be helpful if your friends often change their nickname or icon.
