“Access Denied” Error When Using a Nintendo Account

The information in this article can help you when:

  • Access Denied error appears in the following scenarios:
    • Trying to link a Nintendo Account to a mobile application (Mario Kart Tour, Super Mario Run, etc).
    • Using the Forgot Password link to reset a Nintendo Account password.
    • Any other scenario involving a Nintendo Account.

Note: This message can appear if there is a mismatch between your Nintendo Account and the Nintendo Account that is already logged in to your browser. (For example, if two different Nintendo Account owners use the same smart device.)

Possible solutions

  1. What are you trying to do when the error appears?
    • Make sure that you are linking with your Nintendo Account log-in information (not your Nintendo Network ID). You may find our information detailing each account type helpful.
    • On your smart device browser, sign out of your Nintendo Account (and any related linked accounts).
    • Clear the browser’s cache on your smart device and then try linking again through the application.
      • If your smart device has multiple browsers installed, we recommend clearing the cache on each one.
    • Ensure your browser does not have cookies disabled.
    • Try uninstalling and reinstalling the mobile app.
    • Try using a different device or browser to link to the mobile app.

    • Clear any current Nintendo Account log-in information from the browser that you’re using.
      • Sign out of your Nintendo Account (and any related linked accounts).
      • If there are multiple tabs open in the browser, make sure that you check or close each one, and log out of the Nintendo Account on those as applicable.
      • Clear the browser’s cache on the device that you’re using.
    • Select the Forgot your password? link to have a new e-mail sent. Select the link in the e-mail to try again.
      • Make sure that the link is opening in the correct browser. If the link opens in a different browser, repeat the previous steps in the new browser to make sure the history is cleared in the new browser also.
    • Try using a different device or browser to reset your password.

    • Clear any current Nintendo Account log-in information from the browser that you’re using.
      • Sign out of your Nintendo Account (and any related linked accounts).
      • If there are multiple tabs open in the browser, make sure that you check or close each one, and log out of the Nintendo Account on those as applicable.
      • Clear the browser’s cache on the device that you’re using.
    • Try accessing your Nintendo Account again.
      • Make sure you are using the correct browser. If a related link opens in a different browser, repeat the previous steps in the new browser to make sure the history is cleared in the new browser also.
    • Try using a different device or browser to access your Nintendo Account.
