Error Code: 003-1400 - 003-1403
Nintendo 3DS
The information in this article can help you when the security authentication process between the Nintendo 3DS family system and wireless router or access point failed.
- The security key you have entered into the Nintendo 3DS family system is likely incorrect.
- You may receive the error message "Could not connect to the access point."
Note
- If your Internet connection previously worked, power cycle your router and modem, and then try your connection again prior to continuing with troubleshooting.
- It is possible that due to a high amount of online traffic, network services may be intermittently unavailable. Please check our Network Status Page.
What to do
- Open the Internet Settings system and enter both the correct wireless security type and password into your existing Internet connection.
- On some occasions your router may be set to WPA2 - PSK (AES + TKIP). In this situation, please select WPA2 - PSK (AES) within the system's Internet settings.
- After entering the password settings, your system will perform a connection test. If this is successful, you are ready to connect online.
- Contact your ISP for assistance determining your wireless password or security type if you were unable to find them.
- If the test connection fails, this may indicate a different setting within the Nintendo 3DS family system's Internet settings is incorrect. Create a new Internet connection on the system, entering the same wireless password information used for the previous step.
- If the test connection continues to fail, review your network setup and make changes that can improve wireless signal strength.
- After trying each of the recommended changes, use the recently created Internet connection to test your connection.
Situation not resolved
If you would like to continue troubleshooting your network, please contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) or network administrator for further assistance with performing the following steps:
- Wireless mode
The Nintendo 3DS family systems support the 802.11g wireless format (also labeled as "Up to 54Mbps" in some routers). If your router is using a wireless mode such as 802.11n only ("Up to 300Mbps"), you will need to change this setting to allow the system to connect to your home network. - MAC filtering
If enabled, MAC filtering will block unallowed devices from connecting to your network.- If this option is disabled, no further changes are required.
- If this option is enabled, locate your system's MAC address and enter it into the list of allowed devices.
If you would like to continue troubleshooting potential issues related to the wireless router, contact the router's manufacturer for assistance with performing the following steps:
- Updating the wireless router's firmware
- Resetting the router back to its factory default settings
