How to Use microSD Management to Move Files between a New Nintendo 3DS XL and a PC

Applies to:  New Nintendo 3DS, New Nintendo 3DS XL, New Nintendo 2DS XL

Step by step instructions on how to access the microSD Card via PC using microSD Management.

Notes:

  • Click here for instructions on how to transfer data from one Nintendo 3DS to another.
  • Do not swap between multiple SD Cards, or swap your SD Card between multiple systems. Use one SD card with one system and be sure to follow the steps below if transferring content to a new SD Card.
  • Do not use save data from an old card after transferring.
  • Do not alter or erase files in the Nintendo 3DS folder.
  • Do not overwrite data by recopying to the same SD card.

What You Need:

  • A wireless access point
  • A PC with Windows 7 / 8.1 installed
    • While this feature may work using Windows 10, we cannot ensure its compatibility.
  • Network Discovery will need to be enabled on your PC.

On the New Nintendo 3DS family system, perform the following:

  1. From the HOME menu, tap on the System Settings Icon.
  2. Select "Data Management."
  3. Select "microSD Management."
  4. Tap "Next" three times.
  5. Tap "Next" and Select the wireless connection file you wish to use to perform the data transfer.
  6. Tap "Next" and type in the user name you wish to use when accessing the system via a PC.
  7. Tap "Next" and type in the password you wish to use when accessing the system via a PC.
  8. Tap "Next" and type in the name you wish to identify the system as when accessing it via a PC.
  9. Tap "OK" Twice to connect to the network.
    • The network SSID, user name, password, and system name will display on the upper screen if you need to remember any of these details later.

On your PC, perform the following:

  1. Open "Windows Explorer."
  2. Click on "Network" in the left-hand panel.
  3. Your New Nintendo 3DS family system should be showing up in the list under "Computer" in the main panel as the name you set during step 8; Open it.
    • If your New Nintendo 3DS family system is not showing up on your computer, try refreshing the page.
  4. If required, input the user name and password you set during steps 6 and 7.
  5. Open "microSD."
  6. Open "Nintendo 3DS."
  7. You will be able to copy, delete, or move items to the listed folders. If you would like to backup your data, copy the entire contents of the microSDHC Card to your PC. If you would like to copy specific photos or videos, then they can be found in the folder titled "DCIM."
