How to Find the Correct Input Channel for a Connection

Wii U

In this article, you'll learn how to find the correct input channel on a television.

Note
  • While this document attempts to assist you in finding the correct input channel to use with your Wii U, it is possible that it may not apply to your specific setup.
  • If you are connecting the Wii U to the TV with an HDMI cable, be sure to pause for a few seconds on each input channel before moving on. It can take a few seconds for the picture to appear on the screen.

Complete these steps

  1. On the television, inspect the area where you plugged in the cable that is connecting your Wii U for a number, letter, or other indicator of the channel with which the input is associated.
  2. If you are able to find a number, make note of it.
  3. Check the TV and the TV remote for a button labeled Input or Input Select.
    • If your TV has a button labeled TV/Video, it will most likely switch your TV from TV channels to input channels.
    • Some TVs may have a button labeled Line In, Video, AUX, or EXT.
    • If you have set up your Wii U GamePad to control your television, attempt to use its input button.
  4. Ensure the Wii U and TV are turned on.
  5. Scroll through the available input channels until you reach the number you made note of in Step 2 and press OK or Enter on the remote if necessary.
  6. If you were unable to find any indication of what the input channel might be, simply scroll through each input channel, stopping at each for a few seconds to see if it the picture displays.
    • There are various ways specific televisions have you scroll through input channels. Some have you press the input button each time you wish to switch, some have you use the up and down arrows to select the correct input channel, while others have you scroll to a high (90-99) or low (00-02) channel.
    • If you are unable to scroll through the input channels, please read the TV's manual, or contact the manufacturer for support.
  7. If you are able to access the input channels but your Wii U will not show on the television, please review our information about blank or no images on the television.
