Forgot Parental Controls PIN on Wii U

Follow these steps when you've forgotten the Parental Controls password and need to reset a Parental Controls PIN on the Wii U.

Note

Registering an e-mail for use with parental controls will allow you to conveniently acquire a PIN-resetting master key in the event that you forget both your PIN and secret question. If you have not done so already, please consider this option once your PIN has been reset.
These steps are only valid for devices purchased in the North American and Latin American regions. If your system is from another region, please contact that region's customer support center.

What to do

Was an e-mail configured for use with Parental Controls? Yes No
1. While on the Wii U Menu, press the HOME Button.
2. Check that the Wii U console's date and time settings are correct. If the date and time are not accurate, you will need to correct the date and time before proceeding.
3. From the Wii U Menu, select Parental Controls.
4. Tap I Forgot or press the X button.
5. Answer your secret question or tap I Forgot.
  - If you know the answer to your secret question, enter it to unlock parental controls. The system will go to the change parental controls screen and you will be able to change your PIN.
    
    Be sure to enter the secret question exactly as you originally typed it, as the answer is case sensitive.
  - If you don't know the answer to your secret question, tap I Forgot.
6. Tap Send to send a master key to the e-mail address you previously set up for use with Parental Controls.
7. Tap OK. You should receive an e-mail that contains a master key within the hour.
  - If you do not receive an e-mail within the hour, select Cancel, make note of the inquiry number, and select No above to follow the steps for resetting your PIN without a configured e-mail address.
8. Enter the master key you received on the Wii U GamePad.
9. Set up a new PIN by selecting Change PINCambiar la contraseñaChanger le code secretMudar o PIN and following the on-screen instructions.
If you already have an Inquiry Number, skip to step 7.
1. While on the Wii U Menu, press the HOME Button.
2. Check that the Wii U console's date and time settings are correct. If the date and time are not accurate, you will need to correct the date and time before proceeding.
3. From the Wii U Menu, select Parental Controls.
4. Tap I Forgot or press the X Button.
5. Answer your secret question or tap I Forgot.
  - If you know the answer to your secret question, enter it to unlock parental controls. The system will go to the change parental controls screen and you will be able to change your PIN.
    
    Be sure to enter the secret question exactly as you originally typed it, as the answer is case sensitive.
  - If you don't know the answer to your secret question, tap I Forgot.
6. An inquiry number will be displayed on the Wii U GamePad. Make a note of it. You will need it to reset your PIN.
7. Reset your Parental Controls PIN
  - An e-mail address is required to use this service. If you are not able to provide an e-mail address, please contact us for support.
