Sales Taxes and Fees
Nintendo uses local tax laws to determine the sales taxes charged. In addition to sales tax rates, local laws may assess fees that the consumer must pay at the time of purchase from a retailer.
Covered Battery-Embedded Waste Recycling Fee (California)
In California, Senate Bill (SB) 1215 has amended the Electronic Waste Recycling Act and added covered battery-embedded products (CBEP) to the CEW Recycling Program.
Beginning January 1, 2026, consumers pay a covered battery-embedded waste recycling fee upon the purchase of a CBEP in California or shipped to a California address. The fee is equal to 1.5% of the product's retail sale price and does not exceed $15 per product.
This fee is applicable to the following Nintendo products:

- Nintendo Switch – Refurbished
- Nintendo Switch + Switch Sports Bundle - Refurbished
- Nintendo Switch – OLED Model
- Nintendo Switch – OLED Model - Refurbished
- Nintendo Switch Lite
- Nintendo Switch Lite - Refurbished
- Joy-Con 2
- Joy-Con
- Joy-Con - Refurbished
- Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller
- Nintendo GameCube Controller for Nintendo Switch 2
- Nintendo 64 Controller for Nintendo Switch
- SEGA Genesis Control Pad for Nintendo Switch
- Super Nintendo Entertainment System Controller for Nintendo Switch
- Nintendo Entertainment System Controllers for Nintendo Switch
