Error Code: 162-0087

Wii U

The information in this article can help you when you're updating the Wii U console, downloading software, installing software, or updating software, and the system receives the error code 162-0087.

What to do

Determine when you are receiving this error code and follow the steps below:

When installing a system update
  1. Power down the Wii U console. If the power button does not power down the console, press and hold it until the system powers down.
  2. Unplug the AC adapter from the Wii U console and the wall outlet.
  3. Wait 90 seconds.
  4. Reconnect the AC adapter, turn the Wii U console on and attempt to install the update again.
  5. If this does not work, reboot the Wii U normally and try again. It may take a few times.
During regular use (downloading, installing, updating software)
  1. Delete the data for the software if it was previously downloaded. If it is a game, delete all but the save data files.
  2. Attempted to download or update the software again.
  3. If the problem persists, determine if you are using a USB storage device or not.
    • If a USB storage device is being used, it will need to be formatted.
    • If USB storage device is not being used, the Wii U console will need to be formatted.

If the problem persists, there is an issue with the Wii U console.
