No, they are not shared. Save data and islands are created separately for each user registered on the system. Even if you are using the same system, they will not be shared with other users. Each user has one save file.

For that reason, this game does not support Handheld Mode Boost.

Are there any controls other than button controls?

While the game primarily uses button controls, some scenes, such as Mii creation and the Palette House workshop, also support touch controls. Joy-Con 2 mouse controls are not supported when playing on Nintendo Switch 2.

How many Miis can I register?

A player can register up to 70 Miis.

You can choose a Mii’s dating preference from "Male," "Female," or "Non-Binary" for each Mii. You can combine multiple options or choose none. Depending on the gender and dating preference you set, Miis may fall in love with one another. Also, regardless of gender, married couples may have babies.
