How would you like to play with others?
-
Local connection (local wireless play with multiple games and consoles, up to four players)
You can have other players visit your towns or visit another player's towns. When using Link Play in Palette Town, visiting players can help build the area, but will not be able to take items home with them. When using Link Play in any other town, visitors will not be able to affect the terrain, but can still interact with Pokémon and habitats. All progress and rewards for challenges will only go to the host player. Visiting players can also order items from the PC Shop and receive them after returning to their own town.
- Start the Pokémon Pokopia software from the HOME Menu.
- Press the A Button on the title screen.

Cloud Island (online play with multiple games and consoles, up to four players)
You can visit or create a Cloud Island to play and build together with others online. After a Cloud Island has been created, any player with the address and Link Code (if required) can play on it, even if the owner is not around. Some options for managing the Cloud Island in a given play session are available only to certain players.
-
What are the different roles when playing on a Cloud Island?
The player who originally created the Cloud Island is the owner, and able to adjust various settings, such as changing the Link Code or preventing other players from visiting. The owner can also kick other players off the island, including the current host.
When there are no players currently playing on the Cloud Island, the next player to arrive automatically becomes the host. The host can also kick other players, except for the owner. When the host is done playing and wants to go back home, they can either designate another player currently on the island as the host, or end the session and send everyone home.
Other players besides the owner and the current host are visitors.
The steps below are for visiting an existing Cloud Island to play on it. If you'd like to invite other players to join your Cloud Island, share the address and Link Code (if required) with them. You can also view a Cloud Island in Virtual Mode if you have the address.
- Start the Pokémon Pokopia software from the HOME Menu.
- Press the A Button on the title screen.
- Access the PC and select Link Play.
- If this is your first time using Link Play, read the important notes, select Understood, then review the information about playing with others.
- Select Play on a Cloud Island.
- If this is your first time using this feature, read additional important information about Link Play, then select OK. You'll also be presented with an overview of how Cloud Islands work. When you're finished reading it, press the B Button.
- If you've already played on the Cloud Island you want to visit, select Go to a previously visited Cloud Island and select the island. Otherwise, select Search for a new Cloud Island and enter the address.
- If a Link Code is required to join, enter it.
- If you created the Cloud Island, you don't need to enter the Link Code. You will also be prompted whether you want to change the Cloud Island settings before you go.
- If the island has Allow Link Code Saving enabled and you have entered the Link Code before, it will automatically be entered for you.
- The destination will be displayed. Select Yes to visit the Cloud Island.
- When you're ready to return to your own town, press the + Button to open the Pokédex, press the - Button to end the session, then select Yes.
- You can also end the session by accessing the PC, selecting Link Play, then Go Back Home, then Yes.
- All items currently in your bag will be stored in the Cloud Island's PC.
- If you are currently the host and there are other players on the island right now, you will be prompted to designate another player currently on the island as the host, or end the session and send everyone home.
