Message: "Backup was canceled because other save data has been backed up." on Nintendo Switch 2
Information for when you're accessing a game's save data within System Settings on Nintendo Switch 2 and the message "Backup was canceled because other save data has been backed up" is displayed.
Important
- Each game can have only one save data backup stored to the cloud.
The save data backup may have been canceled due to the following:
- You played before downloading the most recent save data backup that is stored to the Save Data Cloud service.
- You played on another console and backed up that save data to the Save Data Cloud service, so the save data you are trying to back up from this console is different.
What to do
The save data backup is different from the save data on the console so you will need to decide which save data you want to keep. You can either:
- Manually back up your game progress from the console which overwrites the backup stored online.

How to use Save Data Cloud Backup on Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch
If you have a Nintendo Switch Online membership, you can use the Save Data Cloud backup feature to back up save data from one console and download it on another.
- To back up save data:
- Using the console that has the save data you want to back up, from the HOME Menu, highlight the icon for a game with save data you want to back up.
- Press the - Button or + Button to access the software menu.
- Select Save Data Cloud.
- Select the desired user, then select Back Up Save Data.
- To download save data:
- Using the console that you want to download the save data to, from the HOME Menu, highlight the icon for a game with save data you want to download.
- Press the - Button or + Button to access the software menu.
- Select Save Data Cloud.
- Select the desired user, then select Download Save Data.

Overwritten save data cannot be recovered.
Additional information
- If you intend to play on a different console after backing up your save data, download the most recent backup stored in the Save Data Cloud service before to playing on the second console.
