Joy-Con 2 Do Not Charge While Attached to the Charging Grip

What to do

Do you have the charging grip with the AC adapter plugged into a power outlet, or a USB-C cable connected to the Nintendo Switch 2 dock?

• AC adapter plugged into a power outlet
  1. Reset the AC adapter. Disconnect it from both ends, the console and the outlet, for at least 30 seconds.
  2. While the AC adapter is disconnected, verify that you are using the Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter (model No. NGN-01), and check for any damage, such as cuts, kinks, frayed cables, etc.
     • AC adapter is not the Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter

       Check to see if you are using the Nintendo Switch AC adapter (model No. HAC-002).

       • If you are not using a Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter or Nintendo Switch AC adapter, we recommend switching to a licensed accessory. We cannot guarantee that third-party AC adapters will always work.
       • Please note that, due to differing power outputs, Nintendo Switch AC adapters will not power the Nintendo Switch 2 console while docked for use in TV mode.
     • AC adapter is damaged

       Since the AC adapter is damaged, it will need to be replaced with an undamaged, working AC adapter.

  3. Attach the Joy-Con 2 controllers to the console.
     • How to attach Joy-Con 2 to Nintendo Switch 2
       1. Position the console so it's upright and facing you.
       2. Bring the right Joy-Con 2 (controller with + Button) to the right side of the console.
       3. Align the bottom of the controller close to the console, then bring the top close to the console. You will hear a click when it is securely attached.
          • Keep the area between the Joy-Con 2 and the console clear of any foreign objects.
          
       4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 with the left Joy-Con 2 (controller with - Button).

       The attached Joy-Con 2 controllers are ready to be used. They will also be paired wirelessly to the console and can be detached to use wirelessly.

  4. Plug the AC adapter back into the power outlet, then back into the console.
  5. Select Controllers from the HOME Menu and confirm that the console and Joy-Con 2 controllers are charging. The left and right battery icons should include a lightning bolt symbol to confirm that the controllers are charging.
     • The Joy-Con 2 are not charging

     • The Nintendo Switch 2 console is not charging

  6. Verify you are using the Joy-Con 2 charging grip (model No. BEE-010).
     • Not using the Joy-Con 2 charging grip

       If a different accessory is being used to charge the Joy-Con 2, replacing it with the correct one (model No. BEE-010) may resolve the problem.

  7. Attach the Joy-Con 2 controllers to the charging grip.
  8. Connect the AC adapter to the charging grip, then directly to a wall outlet.
  9. Check that the recharge LED on the charging grip turned on.
     • The recharge LED on the charging grip did not turn on

       Check the battery charge on the Joy-Con 2.

       • If the battery charge for the Joy-Con 2 is approximately full, then it is normal for the Joy-Con 2 to stop charging and the recharge LED will shut off.
       • If the battery charge is not nearly full, and the recharge LED on the charging grip is not lit, the Joy-Con 2 charging grip will need to be replaced.
  10. Select Controllers from the HOME Menu and confirm that the Joy-Con 2 controllers are charging. The battery icons under the Joy-Con 2 controller icons should include a lightning bolt symbol to confirm that the controllers are charging.
• USB-C cable connected to the Nintendo Switch 2 dock
  1. Unplug the USB-C cable from the charging grip and the dock.
  2. While disconnected, check the cable for any damage, such as cuts, kinks, frayed cables, etc.
     • Cable is damaged

       Since the cable is damaged, it will need to be replaced with an undamaged, working cable.

  3. Try using a different cable to plug the charging grip into the dock.
  4. Attach the Joy-Con 2 controllers to the console.
     • How to attach Joy-Con 2 to Nintendo Switch 2
       1. Position the console so it's upright and facing you.
       2. Bring the right Joy-Con 2 (controller with + Button) to the right side of the console.
       3. Align the bottom of the controller close to the console, then bring the top close to the console. You will hear a click when it is securely attached.
          • Keep the area between the Joy-Con 2 and the console clear of any foreign objects.
          
       4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 with the left Joy-Con 2 (controller with - Button).

       The attached Joy-Con 2 controllers are ready to be used. They will also be paired wirelessly to the console and can be detached to use wirelessly.

  5. Plug your Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter into a power outlet, then into the console.
  6. Select Controllers from the HOME Menu and confirm that the console and Joy-Con 2 controllers are charging. The left and right battery icons should include a lightning bolt symbol to confirm that the controllers are charging.
     • The Joy-Con 2 are not charging

     • The Nintendo Switch 2 console is not charging

  7. Verify you are using the Joy-Con 2 charging grip (model No. BEE-010).
     • Not using the Joy-Con 2 charging grip

       If a different accessory is being used to charge the Joy-Con 2, replacing it with the correct one (model No. BEE-010) may resolve the problem.

  8. Re-attach the Joy-Con 2 controllers to the charging grip.
  9. Connect the AC adapter to the charging grip, then directly to a wall outlet.
  10. Check that the recharge LED on the charging grip turned on.
      • The recharge LED on the charging grip did not turn on

        Check the battery charge on the Joy-Con 2.

        • If the battery charge for the Joy-Con 2 is approximately full, then it is normal for the Joy-Con 2 to stop charging and the recharge LED will shut off.
        • If the battery charge is not nearly full, and the recharge LED on the charging grip is not lit, the Joy-Con 2 charging grip will need to be replaced.
  11. Select Controllers from the HOME Menu and confirm that the Joy-Con 2 controllers are charging. The battery icons under the Joy-Con 2 controller icons should include a lightning bolt symbol to confirm that the controllers are charging.
  12. Try plugging the charging grip back into the USB-C cable connected to the dock.
      • Charging grip still isn't charging Joy-Con 2 controllers.

        If the Joy-Con 2 controllers charged while attached to the console, but don't when plugged into the charging grip, then there is likely an issue with the charging grip. Replacing the non-working accessory should resolve the issue.
