How to Transfer Data Between microSD Express Cards for Use on Nintendo Switch 2

Nintendo Switch 2

Steps on how to transfer information from one microSD Express card to another for use on Nintendo Switch 2.

Before you start

You will need:

  • Two compatible microSD Express cards.
  • An SD card slot on your computer, or a commercially available microSD card reader/writer.
    • If your computer does not have a slot that supports microSD cards, you will need an SD card adapter.

Complete these steps

  1. Make sure the new microSD Express card is formatted per our recommendations before using.
    • Do not delete, format, or alter the content from the original microSD Express card until you have verified the new microSD card is working correctly.
  2. Remove the original microSD Express card from the Nintendo Switch 2 console.
  3. Insert the microSD Express card with the Nintendo Switch 2 data into the microSD card reader/writer.
  4. Open Windows Explorer and access the microSD Express card.
  5. Highlight the data and drag it to the desktop. Always copy the entire folder, and never alter or erase the files it contains.
  6. Eject the original microSD Express card, then insert the new microSD Express card into the computer's slot or reader/writer.
  7. Use Windows Explorer again to access the microSD Express card.
  8. Drag the data from the desktop to the new microSD Express card, then eject it.
  9. Insert the new microSD Express card into the Nintendo Switch 2 console.
  10. Redownload any software from the Nintendo eShop as needed.

Additional information

  • Software downloaded to a microSD Express card on one console will not be playable on a different system.
  • Do not swap data between multiple microSD Express cards, or swap your microSD Express card between multiple consoles. Use a single microSD card with each console.
