Using Nintendo Switch 2 with an External Speaker System

Steps for connecting the Nintendo Switch 2 to an AV receiver or external speaker system.

Complete these steps

  1. Connect the Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter (model no. NGN-01) to the dock and to an available wall outlet.
  2. Remove any device connected to the audio jack on the console.
  3. Connect one end of the HDMI cable to the dock and the other end to an HDMI input on the AV receiver.
    • Be sure to use the HDMI cable that came with the Nintendo Switch 2 console.
  4. Connect another HDMI cable from the AV receiver (output) to the TV set (input).
  5. Ensure the appropriate inputs are selected on the TV set and the audio receiver.
    • For details on how to connect the AV receiver to the TV set, consult the device manual or contact the manufacturer for assistance.
  6. Power on the TV set and the AV receiver.
  7. Ensure the Nintendo Switch 2 console has the latest system update.

      1. Select the System Settings on the HOME Menu.

      2. Scroll down through the System Settings menu and select System.
      3. Select System Update, to start the system update process.

        • During the process, the system will first perform a check to determine if a new system update is available.
        • If an update is available, the download process will begin automatically.
  8. On the Nintendo Switch 2 console, go to System Settings from the HOME Menu.
  9. On the left side of the screen, scroll down to Audio.
  10. Under Audio Output, select TV Sound.
  11. Select Linear PCM 5.1 Surroud.
  12. Detach the Joy-Con 2 controllers and dock the console.

      Important: After detaching the Joy-Con 2 controllers from the console, be sure to attach the Joy-Con 2 straps before starting a game or software.

      1. Press the release button on the back of the Joy-Con 2.

      2. While holding the release button down, pull the controller away from the console to detach it.

      The Joy-Con 2 registration information is not deleted when the controllers are detached. You can now use them as wireless controllers.
