+Control Pad is Not Responding Correctly on the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller

Use this article when:
- The +Control Pad on the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller does not respond or it seems to respond incorrectly.
- When pressing a certain direction on the +Control Pad, the input received will trigger a different direction. For example: pressing Left or Right triggers Up.
What to do
- Check if any buttons on the controller have been remapped.

You can tell that a controller's button inputs have been remapped because throughout different menus, a wrench icon will be displayed beside the controller in-use at the bottom-left corner of the console screen.

- If they have been remapped, we recommend the controller button configuration is set to the standard inputs while troubleshooting.
- Alternatively, set the console to sleep mode. Upon waking up the console, you’ll have the option to reset the controller inputs.

- Select System Settings on the HOME Menu.
- Scroll down to the bottom of the System Settings menu and select System.
- Select System Update to start the system update process.
- The system will check to see if an update is available.

- Check that the Pro Controller has power and that it is paired to the console.

How to check if the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller is paired and charged
While on the HOME Menu press any button on the Pro Controller.
- If one or more of the player LEDs on the controller blink and remain lit, the controller is already charged and paired to the console.
- If the player LEDs momentarily light up in a sequence and then shut off, the Pro Controller will need to be paired to the console.
- If none of the player LEDs light up, the Pro Controller is out of power and will need to be recharged.

- Update the controller firmware.

- Ensure your console has the latest system update installed.
- Select System Settings from the HOME Menu.
- Scroll down to Controllers & Accessories.
- In the Controllers & Accessories options, scroll down and select Update Controllers to begin updating any controllers that are powered on and paired with the console.
- If multiple controllers are paired to the console, the controllers will be updated one controller at a time.
- If the update stops before it can be completed, try this step again.

How to update controller firmware on Nintendo Switch 2
- Reset the controller by pressing the SYNC Button once, then press any other button on the controller to power it on again.
- Test the button input to verify that the +Control Pad is functioning properly. Check the +Control Pad inputs for Up, Down, Left, and Right.
- Try navigating the HOME Menu using the +Control Pad or start a compatible game that uses the +Control Pad.

Button test was successful but the +Control Pad does not respond with a particular game/application
Try the following:
- Check the software manual or game packaging to ensure compatibility.
- Decrease the distance between the Pro Controller and the console.
- To minimize wireless interference, ensure that the console is not placed behind a TV, under a metal object, or within three to four feet of other wireless devices, such as wireless speakers, cordless phones, etc.
- Test the Pro Controller using a different compatible game or software.

Situation not resolved
- If the issue occurs on occasion, continue using the Pro Controller for a few weeks to see if it affects your gameplay.
- If the button test fails or if the issue becomes so severe that it impacts your ability to play a game or use the controller, the controller will need to come in for service.
