Unable to Capture Screenshots on Nintendo Switch 2
Nintendo Switch 2
Follow these steps when:
- You are unable to capture screenshots on a Nintendo Switch 2 system.
- A message is displayed indicating you must free up space in order to capture screenshots.
- There is no response when pressing the Capture Button.
Important: Some applications and/or software do not support screenshot captures. This is by design and will be clearly indicated by the on-screen message, "Unable to take a capture now."
What to do
- Undock the Nintendo Switch 2 console and attach the Joy-Con 2 controllers.
- While in the HOME Menu, press the Capture Button on the left Joy-Con 2 controller.
- If a message is received about needing to free up space, you can do the following:
- Delete downloaded software.
- Insert a microSD Express card to save new screenshots to, or copy over screenshots from the System Memory.
- If the issue happens only while using a specific application or during certain parts of gameplay, it’s possible that the Capture button is not compatible with that application or specific part of a game. Check the software manual.
- If a message is received about needing to free up space, you can do the following:
- If you have verified that the intended application is compatible with the Capture Button, try testing the application using a different Joy-Con 2 controller.
- If a second left Joy-Con works correctly on the console, the original left Joy-Con 2 will need to be serviced.
Situation not resolved
If there is no response with another left Joy-Con 2, then the Nintendo Switch 2 console will need to be serviced. For testing purposes include the non-working left Joy-Con 2 controller.
For your convenience, Nintendo provides a quick and easy-to-use online service request process.
