How to Use the GameCube Controller With Nintendo Switch 2

Follow these steps to connect and use the GameCube Controller with the Nintendo Switch 2 console.

Note: The information in this article applies to the wired GameCube controller, which can be used with Nintendo Switch 2 using the GameCube Controller Adapter. A wireless Nintendo GameCube Controller for Nintendo Switch 2 is also available to Nintendo Switch Online members.

Before you start

You will need:

  • Your Nintendo Switch 2 console, in TV mode
  • A wired GameCube Controller
  • A GameCube Controller Adapter, sold separately

Complete these steps

  1. Ensure your console has the latest system update installed.
  2. Set up the console in TV mode.
  3. Connect both USB plugs from the GameCube Controller Adapter to the Nintendo Switch 2 dock.

  4. Power on the console, if it is not powered on already.
  5. Connect the GameCube Controller to an available port on the GameCube Controller Adapter.

  6. Once connected, press any button on the GameCube Controller for it to register on the console.

    • While used with Nintendo Switch 2, the GameCube controller is recognized as a standard USB controller.

Additional information

Controller vibration is available for the GameCube Controller on supported software only, such as Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
