How to Use the GameCube Controller With Nintendo Switch 2

Follow these steps to connect and use the GameCube Controller with the Nintendo Switch 2 console.
Note: The information in this article applies to the wired GameCube controller, which can be used with Nintendo Switch 2 using the GameCube Controller Adapter. A wireless Nintendo GameCube Controller for Nintendo Switch 2 is also available to Nintendo Switch Online members.
Before you start
You will need:
- Your Nintendo Switch 2 console, in TV mode
- A wired GameCube Controller
- A GameCube Controller Adapter, sold separately
Complete these steps
- Ensure your console has the latest system update installed.

How to check for the latest system update
- Select System Settings on the HOME Menu.
- Scroll down to the bottom of the System Settings menu and select System.
- Select System Update to start the system update process.
- The system will check to see if an update is available.

How to check for the latest system update
- Set up the console in TV mode.
- Connect both USB plugs from the GameCube Controller Adapter to the Nintendo Switch 2 dock.
- Power on the console, if it is not powered on already.
- Connect the GameCube Controller to an available port on the GameCube Controller Adapter.

- Once connected, press any button on the GameCube Controller for it to register on the console.
- While used with Nintendo Switch 2, the GameCube controller is recognized as a standard USB controller.

Controller vibration is available for the GameCube Controller on supported software only, such as Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
