Nintendo constantly aims to improve the functionality of its systems and services in order to provide the easiest, most user-friendly experience possible. As a part of these efforts, we are making Nintendo 3DS™ system updates available for download via the Internet.

Your Nintendo 3DS system and software are not designed for use with any unauthorized device and/or any unauthorized software. Please note that the Nintendo warranties do not cover any defects to or defects caused by unauthorized devices, software, modifications and/or non-licensed accessories. Furthermore such use may lead to injury to yourself or others and may cause performance issues and/or damage to your Nintendo 3DS system and related services. Nintendo (as well as Nintendo licensees or distributors) is not responsible for any damage or loss caused by the use of such devices, software, modifications or non-licensed accessories.

IMPORTANT: After the Nintendo 3DS system is updated, any existing or future unauthorized technical modification of the hardware or software of your Nintendo 3DS system, or the use of an unauthorized device in connection with your system, may render the system permanently unplayable. Content deriving from the unauthorized modification of the hardware or software of your Nintendo 3DS system may be removed. Failure to accept the update may render games unplayable.

In relatively newer versions of the Nintendo 3DS system update, updates can be received automatically when connected to a wireless access point. When the download is complete, you will receive a dialog on the HOME Menu detailing the steps to install the update.

Changes to HOME Menu:

• A Home Menu Layout setting has been added to HOME Menu Settings. Users can save and load up to 8 layouts of the HOME Menu with different theme and software icon arrangements

Changes to Theme Shop:

• Additional categories have been added under “View More” for easier navigation of the Theme Shop

Improvements to system stability and usability:

• Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience




Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo 3DS XL, and Nintendo 2DS Systems Only:

Changes to HOME Menu Settings

• amiibo Settings has been added to HOME Menu Settings. amiibo Settings allows users to register an amiibo owner and nickname, delete data written to an amiibo by supported software, or reset an amiibo*



*For the original Nintendo 3DS family systems, this feature will require the use of the Nintendo 3DS NFC Reader/Writer.

Version 9.3.0-21U available via wireless Internet connection includes the following improvements:

Changes to the HOME Menu:

• A Shuffle Favorites feature has been added under Change Theme in HOME Menu Settings. Users can choose multiple themes and have their theme change when the system is left in Sleep Mode from the HOME Menu or turned on after being off
• Available software updates can now be downloaded from the HOME Menu
• Users can now capture screenshots with both the upper and lower screens included

• Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience

New Nintendo 3DS Systems Only:

Changes to the HOME Menu:

• Users can now use themes to customize the design and sounds of the HOME Menu
  • Five themes are pre-installed and additional themes can be purchased from the Theme Shop
  • Themes can be changed by using settings located within the HOME Menu Settings
• A feature has been added that allows users to capture screenshots of their HOME Menu

Changes to the Nintendo eShop:

• The Title Information page has been updated to provide easier access to any available videos, demos, user reviews, and other information

Improvements to system stability and usability:

• Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience

Version 7.2.0-17U available via wireless Internet connection includes the following improvements:

Added new Parental Control features:

• Parents can now register an e-mail address within Parental Controls
• Parents that have registered an e-mail can send themselves instructions on unlocking Parental Controls if they have forgotten their Parental Controls PIN

Improved system stability and usability:

• Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience

Version 7.0.0-13U available via wireless Internet connection includes the following improvements:

Added Support for Nintendo Network IDs:

• Users can now create or link a Nintendo Network ID, which is required to use some network services, from within System Settings
• Nintendo eShop has been updated to support Nintendo Network IDs (*1)

Added Support for Miiverse:

• Users can now view and post to Miiverse from Nintendo 3DS family systems

Added a Software Update Notification:

• A notification will now display when software is started and update data is available (*2)

Removed the limit to system transfers:

• The previous limit of five system transfers per system has been removed

Changed the start-up method of Nintendo 3DS Camera from the HOME Menu:

• Pressing the L and R Buttons simultaneously will now start the Nintendo 3DS Camera from the HOME Menu

Improved system stability and usability:

• Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience

*1 Credit card information stored on the Nintendo eShop will be deleted after this update is performed or after linking a new Nintendo Network ID
*2 SpotPass must be enabled to use this feature

Version 6.2.0-12U available via wireless Internet connection includes the following improvements:

Added support for the StreetPass relay feature:

• The Streetpass relay feature relays StreetPass data from one user that passes a Nintendo Zone to the next user that passes the same Nintendo Zone

Improved system stability and usability:

• Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience

Version 6.1.0-12U available via wireless Internet connection includes the following improvements:

Changes to StreetPass Mii Plaza:

• The option to update StreetPass Mii Plaza is now available from the Streetpass Mii Plaza menu

  • Updating StreetPass Mii Plaza will provide new features, such as the ability to change your Mii character's expression and the ability to purchase new StreetPass Mii Plaza games*




Improved system stability and usability:

• Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience

*The ability to update within StreetPass Mii Plaza and purchase paid content is only available to users in countries where the full version of the Nintendo eShop is available.

Version 6.0.0-11U available via wireless Internet connection includes the following improvements:

Save Data Backup Feature:

• Users can now back up save data for downloadable versions of Nintendo 3DS software and most Virtual Console games

Improved system stability and usability:

• Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience
