Nintendo constantly aims to improve the functionality of its systems and services in order to provide the easiest, most user-friendly experience possible. As a part of these efforts, we are making Nintendo 3DS™ system updates available for download via the Internet.

Your Nintendo 3DS system and software are not designed for use with any unauthorized device and/or any unauthorized software. Please note that the Nintendo warranties do not cover any defects to or defects caused by unauthorized devices, software, modifications and/or non-licensed accessories. Furthermore such use may lead to injury to yourself or others and may cause performance issues and/or damage to your Nintendo 3DS system and related services. Nintendo (as well as Nintendo licensees or distributors) is not responsible for any damage or loss caused by the use of such devices, software, modifications or non-licensed accessories.

In relatively newer versions of the Nintendo 3DS system update, updates can be received automatically when connected to a wireless access point. When the download is complete, you will receive a dialog on the HOME Menu detailing the steps to install the update.

  • Changes to HOME Menu
    • A Home Menu Layout setting has been added to HOME Menu Settings. Users can save and load up to 8 layouts of the HOME Menu with different theme and software icon arrangements.
    • Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo 3DS XL, and Nintendo 2DS systems only
      • Amiibo Settings has been added to HOME Menu Settings. Amiibo Settings allows users to register an amiibo owner and nickname, delete data written to an amiibo by supported software, or reset an amiibo. This feature will require a peripheral device scheduled to launch in 2015.
  • Changes to Theme Shop
    • Additional categories have been added under View More for easier navigation of the Theme Shop.

    • A Shuffle Favorites feature has been added under Change Theme in HOME Menu Settings. Users can choose multiple themes and have their theme change when the system is left in Sleep Mode from the HOME Menu or turned on after being off.
    • Available software updates can now be downloaded from the HOME Menu.
    • Users can now capture screenshots with both the upper and lower screens included.
    • New Nintendo 3DS systems only
      • Amiibo Settings has been added to HOME Menu Settings. Amiibo Settings allows users to register an amiibo owner and nickname, delete data written to an amiibo by supported software, or reset an amiibo.

    • The Title Information page has been updated to provide easier access to any available videos, demos, user reviews, and other information.

    • Users can now create or link a Nintendo Network ID, which is required to use some network services, from within System Settings.

  • Added Support for Miiverse
    • Users can now view and post to Miiverse from Nintendo 3DS family systems.

  • Added a Software Update Notification
    • A notification will now display when software is started and update data is available.**
  • Removed the limit to system transfers
    • The previous limit of five system transfers per system has been removed.
  • Changed the start-up method of Nintendo 3DS Camera from the HOME Menu
    • Pressing the L and R Buttons simultaneously will now start the Nintendo 3DS Camera from the HOME Menu.
  • Improved system stability and usability
    • Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience.

*Credit card information stored on the Nintendo eShop will be deleted after this update is performed or after linking a new Nintendo Network ID.
