The information in this article can help you when, while trying to redeem a Nintendo Switch Online download code on the Nintendo website, you receive error code 9001-0142 and the message "A member of your family group already has a Nintendo Switch Online family membership, so you cannot use this code at this time."

This error message will appear if you try to redeem a download code for a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack Individual or Family membership on a Nintendo Account that is part of a family group with an active Nintendo Switch Online Family membership.
Possible solutions
- If the download code is for a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack Family membership, have the Nintendo Account owner that purchased the current family membership redeem the download code. Once the code is redeemed, all members of the family group will be covered by the service.
- If the download code is for a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack Individual membership, you can leave your family group. After doing so, you will be able to redeem the download code for your Nintendo Account.
- When the current family membership ends, you will able to redeem the download code if it has not expired. Be sure to turn off auto-renewal before the current membership ends if you wish to do this.
